Mr. Grady Louis Goad, age 86, of Chireno, Texas, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013, at a Tyler hospital.
Mr. Goad was born July 8, 1926, in Buffalo, Texas. Following graduation from Buffalo High School, he attended Sam Houston State University, Huntsville, receiving a technical arts degree. He was a decorated U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater with the 43rd Infantry Division.
Living for a number of years in the Beaumont area, Mr. Goad worked for the Beaumont Enterprise & Journal for 27 years, working as a photo engraver and later as a production manager. He was also active with the Young Men’s Business League (YMBL) and Little League baseball.
Mr. Goad had lived in Chireno for the past 37 years. He and his family have owned and operated Chireno Air Conditioning & Heating since that time.
In Beaumont, he served as an elder for Central Church of Christ and Pinecrest Church of Christ. He was most recently a member of Ratcliff Church of Christ in Denning.
Mr. Goad most definitely loved the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He was married January 21, 1949, to Fannie Mae House and she preceded him in death on March 21, 2002. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Ray Mills Goad and Bessie Green Goad; and a sister, Helen Louise Baker.
His survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Kay Goad of Lumberton, Texas, Tommy and Regina Goad of Nacogdoches, Texas, and Wendell and Jill Goad of Chireno, Texas; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Peggy and Elbert Sowell of Chireno; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 29, 2013, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel, located at 5400 North Street in Nacogdoches, Texas, with Mr. Gary Scott and Mr. Jay Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at Sowell Cemetery, located off Hwy. 103 in San Augustine County, Texas.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 28, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors.
