The Lighten Up Expo will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at the C.L. Simon Recreation Center. The expo will offer education, complimentary health assessments, and information on healthy weight loss. This is an opportunity for Lighten Up participants and interested community members. Derek Head, community health educator says, “Many Lighten Up East Texas participants have signed up for the weight-loss challenge and immediately ask “now what?” The Lighten Up Expo is the perfect opportunity to answer that question and see what Nacogdoches has to offer individuals trying to lose weight and live a healthier lifestyle.”
The expo will showcase organizations who promote healthy weight loss, including: CrossFit Nac, Curves, J. McKinney’s at Hotel Fredonia, Morning Glory Yoga, Nacogdoches Endurance Training, Nacogdoches Farmers Market, Nacogdoches Medical Center, Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital Outpatient Medical Nutrition, Nacogdoches Parks and Recreation, Newbies Fitness, SFASU Campus Recreation, The Court Club, and Ultrafit Fitness Center.
Door Prizes will include: free gym memberships, group exercise class passes, cookbooks, and more. Free Lighten Up East Texas t-shirts will be given to the first 100 attendees.
Lighten up East Texas is a regional weight loss challenge in which surrounding counties compete to lose weight and improve the health of their communities. We know Nacogdoches is Texas’ first city, but let’s show the rest of East Texas we’re also first in fitness. Interested individuals can still sign up for the challenge through March 1 at one of five weigh-in locations: C.L. Simon Recreation Center, M&S Pharmacy, and The Court Club during regular hours of operation. The offices of Bryan Davis, M.D. do weigh-ins from 8 to 10 a.m. and Newbies Fitness from 5 to 7 p.m. on weekdays.
