The City of Nacogdoches will officially “unveil” the Judy B. McDonald Public Library sign next week. The Nacogdoches City Council and Mayor Roger Van Horn invite everyone to join them on Wednesday, November 28th at 12 noon at the Judy B. McDonald Public Library, located at 1112 North Street to help celebrate and rededicate the facility. Earlier this year the Nacogdoches City Council officially renamed the public library in honor of the former Mayor, after a recommendation was made by the naming committee in honor of a leader who has had a great impact and provided outstanding service to the Nacogdoches community.
Mayor McDonald is the only woman elected mayor of the City of Nacogdoches, where she served as Mayor for eight years, and ten years as the commissioner for the Northeast Ward. During those eighteen years Mayor McDonald earned a reputation throughout East Texas, Austin and Washington DC for providing good government in Nacogdoches and constant vigilance in maintaining and promoting good economic development for the community. Mayor McDonald continued those efforts as the president of the Nacogdoches Economic Development Corporation, where she served for over a decade. Mayor McDonald has served on countless boards and committees bringing recognition to Nacogdoches and improving the quality of life for its residents.
“It is truly fitting that the library be named in her honor,” said City Manager Jim Jeffers, Judy and C.L. Simon are jointly responsible for the location of our current recreation center and public library. “We are tremendously grateful for Judy’s passion and perseverance for the public library and for all things Nacogdoches.”
