Austin State University will host “A Walk in the Woods” from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 22 at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center at 2900 Raguet St. Research associate Greg Grant will discuss several good woody plant identification books and then lead participants through the plant center grounds explaining how to identify both common and uncommon East Texas trees, like the hardwoods and evergreen trees pictured in this East Texas landscape. Greg is author of the Kindle book “In Greg’s Garden - A Pineywoods Perspective on Gardening, Nature and Family” and has worked with the Mercer Arboretum and Botanical Garden and the San Antonio Botanical Garden. He manages the Rebel Eloy Emanis Pine Savanna and Bird Sanctuary, his own private woodland retreat. Cost is $15 for Friends of SFA Gardens members and $20 for non-members.
