NEW TELECOMMUNICATIONS OPERATORS BEGIN DUTY

Eight new telecommunications operators reported for duty yesterday morning to complete the staffing of the Nacogdoches Consolidated Communications Center.

The Center will handle 9-1-1 calls for the Nacogdoches City Police and Fire Departments as well as for the County Sheriff and Volunteer Fire Departments. The consolidation of these communications functions is scheduled to begin October 1st.
The new telecommunicators will be undergoing orientation and training, both classroom and practical, for the next four weeks. After consolidation is completed, they will continue their training for an additional eight weeks.
“The coming month will be used to train the operators in the computer aided dispatch system and the policies and procedures of the Department”, said Nacogdoches Police Chief Jim Sevey. “We welcome them all to our organization”.
The Consolidated Communications Center is a cooperative effort between the City of Nacogdoches and Nacogdoches County. All operators are employees of the Nacogdoches Police Department.
