John Payne, 70, of Nacogdoches passed away Sunday, July 15, 2012, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 3, 1941, in Woodville to parents John Lamar and Freddie Mae (Harper) Payne. Mr. Payne lived in Beaumont several years before moving to Nacogdoches 25 years ago. He worked for IBM and Triad as an office equipment technician. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving 1959-1965 during the Vietnam era. He had a great love for the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, and was an avid collector of knives. Mr. Payne was a member of Northwood Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Diane Payne; daughter, Laura Abigail Payne Ameser and husband Tim of Bryan; son, Samuel Grant Payne and wife Melodie of College Station; grandchildren, Amy Ameser of Michigan, Aaron Sowell of Bryan, and Jon Payne and Jess Payne, both of College Station; sister, Rebecca Denton and husband Clyde of Nacogdoches; and aunts, Ella Payne of Jasper and Linda Harper of Mexia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Lamar and Freddie Mae Payne.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 18, at Northwood Baptist Church, Nacogdoches, with Rev. Benny Lewis officiating. Friends and guests are invited to meet the family from 9-10 a.m. at the church.
