Truett Anthony Hurst, 83 passed away on June 28, 2012 surrounded by his family at a local hospital. He was born on March 16, 1929 to parents Guy H. Hurst and Rena (Muckleroy) Hurst in Nacogdoches.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday July 1, 2012 at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel at 2:00 pm with Bro. John Withem of Shady Grove Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Swift Cemetery in Nacogdoches County.
Truett is preceded in death by his parents and brother, EH Hurst.
He is survived by his loving wife of 14 years, Mary I. Hurst; sons, Tony Hurst and wife Caroline, Gary Wilburn; daughters, Cecelia Gauntt and husband Ronald, Mary Hughes and husband Neal, Terri Fatheree and husband Robert, Lisa Cummings; brother, James Hurst; sister, Joy Ward and husband Donald, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews too many to name.
Truett was a godly man who loved his family. He was a wonderful husband and father and the “Rock” that the family learned to lean on over the years. He loved playing and winning games of 42 and was proud of the trophies he had earned. He was a lifelong resident of Nacogdoches, an active member of Shady Grove Baptist Church, and lifelong Mason of the Swift Masonic Lodge # 678. Truett served the US Army during the Korean war. He was a fan of WWE, and had a sense of humor and never met a stranger. He will be greatly missed.
Friends and family are invited to attend visitation on Saturday, June 30, 2012 from 6-8 pm. at Cason Monk Metcalf.
Pallbearers will be Keith Briggs, Gary Wilburn, Troyice Wilson, Dylan Short, Neal Hughes and Tommy Chandler.
