All City Offices will be closed on Wednesday, July 4th in honor of Independence Day. The Judy B. McDonald Public Library, the C.L. Simon Recreation Center, the Sterne-Hoya House Museum and Library and Durst-Taylor Historic House and Gardens will also be closed. City offices will operate their normal business hours on Tuesday, July 3rd and will resume normal operations on Thursday, July 5th. In addition the regularly scheduled July 3rd City Council meeting has been cancelled. The next meeting of the Nacogdoches City Council, will be held on Tuesday, July 17th at 5:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, located at 202 E. Pilar Street. “In honor of our Nation’s Independence, we will be closed on July 4th to allow our staff a chance to celebrate with their families,” said City Manager Jim Jeffers.
The City of Nacogdoches Farmer’s Market will be open on Wednesday, July 4th from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Old Hitch Lot. “Our vendors will be on hand with the freshest local produce to help complete your July 4th celebrations,” said Main Street Manager Sarah O’Brien.
Don’t forget to join in the celebration of our country’s independence at the annual Brookshire Brothers Freedom Fest, presented by Metro PCS. Families are invited to enjoy delicious festival food, children’s activities, the “All-American Hot Dog Eating Contest”, the “Star Spangled Pitch Off” washer tourney, and live music by Nickel Draft and Mondo Domo. The evening will culminate in a dazzling fireworks display sponsored by the Nacogdoches Jaycees beginning 30 minutes after dark. Admission is free. Freedom Fest will take place from 5 to 9:30 p.m. in Festival Plaza, located just south of the downtown square in Nacogdoches. Guests are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and blankets. Residential & Commercial Collection:
There will be no garbage collection on Wednesday, July 4, 2012. Garbage Collection will resume on Thursday, July 5, 2012. All garbage collection will be delayed one day from your regular scheduled pick-up day.
Landfill:
The landfill will be closed on Wednesday, July 4th, and will re-open Thursday, July 5th.
