Mary M. Vitek, chief executive officer of the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council (GSSJC), will be keynote presenter at the Rotary Club of Nacogdoches’ weekly luncheon meeting on June 13.
Vitek is responsible for the operations and management of the largest Girl Scout council in the nation, which serves more than 76,000 girls and 18,000 adults in 26 county areas of the Deep East Texas, Southeast Texas, and Gulf Coast regions – including Nacogdoches County.
According to Kent Hutchison, local Rotarian and member of the GSSJC board of directors, “Mary provides daily direction and guidance to fulfill the Girl Scout mission to be the premier organization in for building girls of courage, confidence and character, which make the world a better place.”
Prior to being named CEO, Vitek also served in various capacities within the organization, including assistant executive director of finance and fund development, and controller. She has been employed with the Council since 1994. During her tenure, the Council reached the first $10 million cookie sale and completed a $12 million capital campaign. Vitek also oversees a $13 million budget, advising a 33-member board of directors and maintaining a relationship with key constituents, including members, volunteers, employees, donors, the media and Girl Scouts of the USA. Prior to joining Girl Scouts Vitek was a senior manager in the assurance practice at KPMG Peat Marwick. She became a certified public accountant in 1988 and is a member of Sam Houston State University’s College of Business Administration advisory board.
