Obituary: Stephen Robert Gilpatrick

     Stephen Robert Gilpatrick, 63, passed away on Monday, April 16, 2012 in Nacogdoches, Texas. A funeral service for Steve Gilpatrick, 63, will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, April 19, 2012, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Chireno, Texas with Father Joseph Lourdusamy officiating. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery in Chireno.

     Steve was born in Bloomington, Indiana on October 28, 1948 to Max James and Barbara Jean Myers Gilpatrick.

     Steve graduated from Bloomington High School in 1966. He then served in the US Navy where he was a Communications Specialist. He was also employed by Texaco Inc. and ChevronTexaco. He was a member of the American Legion, SOAR-Survivors Offering Assistance & Recovery and also was a 4-H leader. Steve was known as a loving husband, dad, grandpa and son. He was an avid NASCAR fan and loved Indiana University Sports “Go Hoosiers!” He was an outgoing man who loved Texas and his family. He never met a stranger and loved working outdoors in the yard. He had a special love for his hog “Ruby” and his cat, “Hershey” who were known to be his faithful companions during his recovery days. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him best.

     Stephen was preceded in death by his father, Max James Gilpatrick; brother, Mike Gilpatrick and son, Jaime Gilpatrick.

     He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Linda K. Gilpatrick; daughter, Erin M. Permenter and husband Jacob; granddaughter, Layla K. Permenter all of San Augustine, Texas; step-son, Jeremy Dyes and his wife Holly; grandson, Drake Dyes all of Port O’Connor, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews.

     Pallbearers will be Brandon Sargent, David Sargent, Brent Sargent, Jordan Godwin, Tyler Godwin, Mike Rusk and Dean Rusk.

     Memorial donations may be offered to www.Phoenix-Society.org or mailed to: Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors, 1835 RW Berends St SW, Grand Rapids, MI 49519. This organization helps children who have experienced severe burns or skin issues to go to camp and helps rebuild the funds used to support burn victims and to aid in the education and healing of families who have been hurt.
