Obituary: Lera Sparks Parmley

     Mrs. Lera Sparks Parmley, 94, of Nacogdoches passed away on March 20, 2012. She was born in Nacogdoches County on April 11, 1917, to parents Clark Sparks and Vergie Noble Sparks. Visitation will begin on Saturday at 10:00 am at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:00 am with Pastor Pat Kelly officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Nacogdoches.

     As the oldest child, Lera was a caretaker of her siblings, a devoted wife of 64 years, a talented cook and hostess of many family gatherings. She was also a loving, caring mother who was admired by many friends and relatives due to her contributions to the community. She was also an active member of Fredonia Hill Baptist Church for many years until her health declined.

     She is preceded in death by her husband, John Wells Parmley, and sister, Dorothy Stevens. Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn Shadowens and husband Charles; grandchildren, Angela Shadowens, Brian Shadowens and wife Nancy; great grandchildren, John Deeter, Shelby Russell, Charlie Shadowens; brothers, Kirby Sparks, Wilford Sparks, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

     Memorial contributions may be offered to: American Heart Association, Bank of America, c/o AHA Memorial, PO Box 841125, Dallas, TX, 75284.

     Pallbearers will be Brian Shadowens, John Deeter, Ben Miles, Larry Sparks, Roy Sparks, and Adam Sparks. Honorary Bearers are Charles Parmley and Kemp Greig.
