CENTRAL HEIGHTS HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR, AMY DRAPER WAS ANNOUNCED AS THE WINNER OF THE 2012 NACOGDOCHES COUNTY GO TEXAN SCHOLARSHIP AT THE GO TEXAN BANQUET. THE HOUSTON LIVESTOCK SHOW AND RODEO BEGAN ITS 2012 SCHOLARSHIP SEASON FEBRUARY 25TH AT THE RELIANT CENTER IN HOUSTON, AS 72 TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS WERE AWARDED SCHOLARSHIPS. MISS DRAPER WILL RECEIVE A $16,000 SCHOLARSHIP TO A TEXAS COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY IN ADDITION TO A HOUSTON LIVESTOCK SHOW JACKET.
THE 72 FOUR-YEAR $16,000 SCHOLARSHIPS INCLUDED AN ADDITIONAL 10 AWARDS GIVEN AT LARGE TO ELIGIBLE STUDENTS WITHIN THE 62 COUNTIES REPRESENTED IN THE AREA GO TEXAN SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM. THESE SCHOLARSHIPS ARE PART OF THE HOUSTON LIVESTOCK SHOW & RODEO’S ANNUAL COMMITMENT OF MORE THAN $18.8 MILLION TO TEXAS STUDENTS.
THE 62 PARTICIPATING AREA GO TEXAN COUNTIES ARE: ANDERSON, ANGELINA, ARANSAS, AUSTIN, BASTROP, BEE, BELL, BOSQUE, BRAZOS, BURLESON, CALDWELL, CALHOUN, CHEROKEE, COLORADO, DEWITT, FALLS, FAYETTE, FREESTONE, GOLIAD, GONZALES, GREGG, GRIMES, HARDIN, HARRISON, HENDEWRSON, HILL, HOUSTON, JACKSON, JASPER, JEFFERSON, KARNES, LAVACA, LEE, LEON, LIMESTONE, LIVE OAK, MADISON, MATAGORDA, MCLENNA, MILAM, NACOGDOCHES, NAVARRO, NEWTON, NUECES, ORANGE, PANOLA, POLK, REFUGIO, ROBERTSON, RUSK, SABINE, SAN AUGUSTINE, SAN JACINTO, SAN PATRICIO, SHELBY, TRINITY, TYLER, VICTORIA, WALKER, WASHINGTON, WHARTON AND WILLIAMSON.
SINCE ITS BEGINNING IN 1932, THE SHOW HAS COMMITTED APPROXIMATELY $283 MILLION TO TEXAS YOUTH. THE HOUSTON LIVESTOCK SHOW & RODEO IS A SECTION 501(c)(3) CHARITY DEDICATED TO BENEFITING YOUTH, SUPPORTING EDUCATION AND FACILITATING BETTER AGRICULTURAL PRACTICES THROUGH EXHIBITIONS AND PRESENTATION. THE SHOW ENDED MARCH 18TH.
FOR MORE THAN 24 YEARS, THE NACOGDOCHES COUNTY GO TEXAN COMMITTEE HAS WORKED IN CONJUNCTION WITH HOUSTON LIVESTOCK SHOW & RODEO TO PROVIDE COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS FOR STUDENTS FROM NACOGDOCHES COUNTY THROUGH THE GO TEXAN COMMITTEE EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES. SUPPORTING LOCAL STUDENTS AND CONTRIBUTING TO THEIR COLLEGE EDUCATION REMAINS THE COMMITMENT OF THIS GROUP. THROUGH THE GENEROUS SUPPORT OF THE COMMUNITY, THE NCAGT COMMITTEE IS ABLE TO “PAY IT FORWARD” AND ENSURE THE SUCCESS OF OUR FUTURE GENERATIONS.
TO DATE, THE COMMITTEE HAS PROVIDED MORE THAN $500,000 IN LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP MONIES TO HELP LOCAL STUDENTS CONTINUE THEIR EDUCATION. WHILE LOCAL ACTIVITIES SUPPORT THE HLSR ALLOWING THE COMMITTEE TO AWARD THE MAXIMUM $16,000 SCHOLARSHIP TO ONE STUDENT FROM THE COUNTY, YOUR FINANICIAL SUPPORT HAS AFFORDED THE COMMITTEE THE ABILITY TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL $1,000 SCHOLARSHIPS EACH YEAR TO DESERVING LOCAL STUDENTS IN ADDITION TO THE HLSR AWARD.
