Zelwanda Sargent Cates, 61, passed away in Lufkin, Texas on Saturday, March 3, 2012. She was born in Nacogdoches on June, 20 1950 to parents John Herman Sargent and Zelma Jean Kimmey.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel at 1:00 pm with John Grimm of Houston officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Springs Cemetery in Etoile.
Ms. Zelwanda Sargent was a lifelong resident of Etoile and a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. In her early years, she was a Number One Sales Associate of the Better Business Bureau and entrepreneur for Telemarketing for Fundraising. In her later years, she was a devoted to caregiver for both her father and mother. She shared her love for her family by baking, cooking and spending time with her nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed.
Zelwanda was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her sons, Marc Cates and wife Jill, Chris Cates and wife Stacie; five grandchildren; brother, David Sargent and wife Sharon; sister, Carolyn Grimm and husband John and many nieces and nephews. Family and guests are invited to a visitation on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 from 6-8 pm and Thursday, March 8 from 12:00 – 1:00 pm at Cason Monk Metcalf Funeral Directors, 5400 North Street Nacogdoches.
Pallbearers will be David Sargent, Jr., Brandon Sargent, John Grimm, Joe Grimm, Brian Grimm, and Brent Sargent.
