Dr. Margo Monteith, professor of psychological sciences at Purdue University, will present a lecture titled “What Can (and Cannot) be Done About Implicit Prejudice” from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, in Dugas Liberal Arts North, Room 142, on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus.
Monteith will discuss the social psychological research regarding implicit prejudice, a form of prejudice that leads people to respond to members of stereotyped groups in biased and unfair ways, even if not intended. She will discuss the consequences of prejudice and strategies to combat it.
Monteith has served as associate editor of several journals including the “Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin,” “Group Processes and Intergroup Relations,” and “Social Cognition.” She is a fellow of the Society of Personality and Social Psychology, and her work has been recognized and funded by multiple research awards and grants from the National Institute of Mental Health.
The event is part of the Colloquium series presented by the SFA Department of Psychology and is free and open to the public. For more information, call (936) 468-5117.
