Traffic stop finds 5 pounds of marijuana

Jason Bridges, Pct. 4 Constable

On 02\03\2012 an Officer with the Precinct 4 Constables Office stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. When the Officer was standing at the door of the vehicle speaking with the occupants he could detect a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the car. A probable cause search of the vehicle revealed 5 pounds of marijuana concealed in a checkers game set and two boxes of detergent. The Officer stated that the detergent boxes had been opened and all of the detergent had been poured out. Then the marijuana was put in the boxes and the detergent was added back to the box and the lids were resealed with glue. After the Officer located the marijuana the passenger, Marty Jones , a 39 year old black male from Memphis, Tennessee stated the marijuana was his and the driver had no knowledge of it being in the vehicle. Jones was arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana a State Jail Felony. The marijuana has an approximate street value of $10,000.00.
