This year’s Scare on the Square celebration will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, October 29th, and will include trick-or-treating, a costume contest, a pet costume contest, a hayride, a petting zoo, Healthy Nacogdoches’ young children’s area, pumpkin art contest, Kroger’s pumpkin baking contest, games and much, much more! Walmart’s costume contest and the Paws Here Pet Costume Contest will begin at 6 p.m. on the Plaza Principal Stage on Pilar Street on the downtown square. All participants must register between 5:30 and 6 p.m. The entry fee is $1, and there will be a category for every age group, as well as a group/family category. The hayride will load and unload near the Regions Stone Fort Bank ATM at the corner of Pilar and Fredonia streets. The hayride, which will wind through downtown and the Nacogdoches Soccer Fields, is $1 per person and will run from 5 to 8 p.m. A petting zoo will be located on Fredonia Street on the west side of Regions and will be free of charge to all ages. We have over 75 vendors signed up so the trick or treating should be spooktacular. Don’t miss the entertainment on the Plaza Principal Stage either, open Karaoke from 5 to 6 p.m. and the Rhythm Rocker Cloggers at 7:00 p.m. to end the evening!
“Come hungry, and bring the biggest treat bag you can find,” said City of Nacogdoches Main Street Manager Sarah O’Brien. “We will have tons of Pepsi products, Little Caesar’s pizza, amazing festival fare, and more candy than you can carry.” We encourage residents to visit the information booth near the Fire Station or visit the helpful volunteers inside the Visitor’s Center for festival maps and information. All of the contest registration forms can be found on the city’s homepage www.ci.nacogdoches.tx.us or the “Scare on the Square” facebook page.
City of Nacogdoches Main Street Advisory Board President Gerry Larabee said “This is event is so special because it provides a safe, fun, alternative to trick or treating, right here on the red brick streets of historic downtown Nacogdoches.” This event wouldn’t be possible without the countless volunteers, and support from our many sponsors. Please bring your entire family and your animal’s downtown next Saturday night. Scare on the Square is a litter free event thanks to Keep Nacogdoches Beautiful.
