Obituary: Larry Parkerson

     Larry V. Parkerson went to be with his Lord on Friday, September 30, 2011. Larry was born on July 15, 1937 to J.D. and Winnie Parkerson. He grew up and graduated from White I.S.D. in White Oak, Texas. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas with Bachelor and Master Degrees in Education. After graduating in 1958 he married Auderle Simons of Nacogdoches in the chapel of First Baptist Church, Nacogdoches. They then left to pursue their teaching careers. He was employed for 32 years at Galena Park I.S.D. in Houston, Texas. There he served as teacher, principal, director of elementary and middle schools, and associate superintendent of personnel, the position he held until retiring in 1990. For the next 12 years he and Auderle spent cruising on their sailboat from the Texas Gulf Coast and on to Florida, the East Coast, and the Bahamas. Returning then to Houston in 2001. The next move was to Nacogdoches in 2005.

     Larry was a member of many civic group and professional organizations and the Masonic Lodge and the Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. He had a wonderful sense of humor, a compassionate heart, and never met a stranger. He was a member of First Baptist Church and The Fireside Sunday School class in Nacogdoches.

     He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Auderle Simons Parkerson of Nacogdoches, Texas; a precious daughter Larrilee Hill and husband, David of Nacogdoches; brothers Hardy Parkerson and wife, Janice of Lake Charles, Louisiana and J.D. Parkerson and wife, Pam of Vinita, Oklahoma; sister Jan Mutersbaugh and husband, Robert of Lake Charles, Louisiana; sister-in-law Nelwyne Green of Pasadena, Texas; and 5 nephews and 2 nieces.

     He was preceded in death by his parents, J.D. and Winnie Parkerson and infant twin daughters.

     Pallbearers will be L.D. Jones, David Hill, Jimmy Roberts, Richard Miller, J.D. Parkerson, Hardy Parkerson, Billy Willis, J.L. Pyle and Mark Simmons.

     In lieu of flowers: Hospice of East Texas and Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

     Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 2, 2011 from 4 until 6 PM at Laird Funeral Home in Nacogdoches, Texas. Funeral service will be held on Monday, October 3, 2011 at 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church Chapel, Nacogdoches, Texas. He will be buried at Fairview Cemetery in Nacogdoches, Texas.
