Organizers of the upcoming 14th annual Scare on the Square Halloween festival are excited to announce plans for the Pet Costume, Children’s Costume, Pumpkin Art, and Pumpkin Baking Contest during this year’s event. Slated for Saturday, October 29th, 2011 the family friendly fall festival attracted over 9,000 people to the historic brick streets of downtown Nacogdoches last year.
“We are thrilled to be bringing back our various contests. It is a great opportunity for people of all ages to get in on the fun of Scare on the Square,” said Main Street Manager Sarah O’Brien. “Many thanks to The Convention & Visitors Bureau, Nacogdoches Animal Services, Kroger, and Wal-Mart for making these contests possible,” said O’Brien.
The Pet Costume contest is open to animals of all shapes and sizes, and includes a “My Pet & Me Category.” The Pumpkin Art entries, including carved and decorated pumpkins, will be on display in the Nacogdoches Convention & Visitors Bureau the evening of Scare on the Square. Food enthusiasts are encouraged to incorporate pumpkin into their favorite sweet treat as part of the pumpkin baking competition. Children’s costume contest participants will register onsite near the Plaza Principal Stage beginning at 5 p.m. the evening of the event. Judging will take place at 6 p.m.. Complete details on our entire contest collection are available along with forms on the Scare on the Square facebook page or the City’s website www.ci.nacogdoches.tx.us.
Vendor applications are also still available at www.ci.nacogdoches.tx.us, or in the Main Street Office, located at 202 E. Pilar Street, room 216 in downtown Nacogdoches. A limited amount of booth space is available, so vendors are encouraged to make reservations early. The deadline to apply for space is October 14th. You can also call organizers at 936-559-2573 and have a form faxed to you.
Scare on the Square will be held from 5-8 p.m. and will host a variety of activities and events, including a haunted hay ride, petting zoo and over 75 vendors.
