As part of its monthly film series, the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and Friends of the Visual Arts will present “Powaqqatsi: Life in Transformation” at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, at The Cole Art Center, in downtown Nacogdoches.
Godfrey Reggio’s 1988 film, the second in his Qatsi trilogy, explores the natives of third world countries and the effect that Western-style modernization has had on them.
As he did with the other films in the trilogy, “Koyaanisqatsi” and “Naqoyqatsi,” Philip Glass wrote the score for the film. And while there is very little dialogue, human voices (mainly children’s) are incorporated into the soundtrack.
The film received the Best Cinematography and Audience Awards at the Madrid International Film Festival and was named Best Film at the Sao Paulo International Film Festival.
The film is sponsored in part by the composition area of study within the SFA School of Music, Nacogdoches Junior Forum and SFA Friends of the Visual Arts.
Admission is free. For more information, please call (936) 468-1131.
