An eclectic mix of artworks will be displayed in the “SFA Faculty Exhibition,” which the Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Art will open at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, in the Ledbetter Gallery of The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.
“This always popular annual exhibition features recent works by the SFA studio art faculty,” said Charlene Rathburn, director of SFA galleries.” A variety of media is represented, demonstrating the diverse, multi-talented individuals who produce exciting art and teach future artists and art educators.”
Among the artists whose work will be included in the exhibition are professors Piero Fenci, Gary Frields and Robert Kinsell; assistant professors Neal Cox, Lauren McAdams, Linda Post and Runcie Tatnall; Visiting Assistant Professor Eduardo Ortiz; and adjunct faculty members Lester Butler, Corinne Jones, Julie King, Ron King and Michael Tubbs.
The exhibition is sponsored in part by Nacogdoches Junior Forum and SFA Friends of the Visual Arts.
Opening that same evening, in the upstairs Hallway Gallery, will be “Growing Paradise,” a group of 18 silk screen and letterpress prints created for a book of the same title recently printed by LaNana Creek Press, SFA’s fine arts press.
The prints were made from artwork co-created by local artist Liz Akamatsu and SFA Professor of Art Piero Fenci in response to the poems by Santa Fe poet Ann Filemyr, which are included in the book.
Both exhibitions will run through Saturday, Oct. 29. Regular gallery hours are 12:30 to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday. Admission is free.
