Funeral service for Mrs. Mattie Belle Patterson Hayden, 95, of Nacogdoches, Texas will be held on Friday, July 29, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Laird Funeral Home with Rev. Rex Humphreys officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
Mrs. Hayden was born on October 14, 1915 in Swift, Texas to Thomas Taylor Patterson and Rosa Belle Flores Patterson. She passed away peacefully in Nacogdoches, Texas on July 25, 2011 at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital.
Mattie Belle moved to Nacogdoches when she was four years old, and remained in Nacogdoches the rest of her life. She graduated from Nacogdoches High School in 1932. Mattie was married to Clarence Leslie Hayden for 36 years before he passed away. She was a longtime member of the First Christian Church of Nacogdoches. She was very talented at sewing and crocheting, and made many dresses for her four daughters throughout their school years. Mattie loved to work in her yard, especially raking leaves in the fall, and was also known to have quite a green thumb. She enjoyed traveling in her later years and never missed a grandchild’s birth. Mattie Belle loved her family, and truly loved spending time with all her grandchildren. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, and will be greatly missed by her family.
Mattie Belle is survived by four children, O.B. Hayden and wife, Millie, of Kaneohe, HI; Lynda Sue Ferry of Nacogdoches, TX; Patsy Rose Jacobs and husband, Mike, of Moscow, TX; and Jacqueline Ruth Hickman and husband, Bill, of Woden, TX, thirteen grandchildren, April Tipton, Kimberly Clark, Melanie Toloumu, Marcus Hayden, Erin Hayden, Eric Ferry, Amy Jacobs, Jack Jacobs, Joy Jacobs, John Jacobs, Jennifer McElroy, Christopher Sharp, and Leslie Jordan, and 19 great-grandchildren with one on the way.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Leslie Hayden; three brothers, Oscar, Dewey, and Harlon Patterson; one sister, Lois Patterson Parker; and one daughter, Lois Marie Clark.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Richard Baker and the staff at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital for the special care that Mattie Belle received.
Music will be provided by Mr. Clayton Dyess at the service.
Pallbearers will be family members.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2011 at Laird Funeral Home from 5-7 PM.
