Eleanor Quattlebaum Elly Cox

Elly died on July 7, 2011, in Nacogdoches. She was born Feb. 6, 1926, in Charlotte, North Carolina to parents, James Robert Quattlebaum and Agatha Elizabeth Purviance.

Elly has been a resident of Nacogdoches since 1939. She married Billy Miller Cox and settled in Nacogdoches to raise a family and to continue the family business of Rho Cox Implement Company, where she and her husband served our community until 1966. Elly belonged to many social organizations, including D.A.R, Thursday Morning Breakfast Club, Old South Garden Club, Newcomers Club, U.D.C., and Prime Timers, to name a few. She was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church. She loved people and never met a stranger. Elly was a proficient player of Contract Bridge since the age of 6. There was not much that Elly could not do. She was considered the “brains” of her outfit and the link to the family past with her nearly photographic memory. She was a seamstress and was always willing to help someone along the way. Both she and her husband Billy took early retirement and enjoyed life. They spent their days on the water in their houseboat, entertained guests and enjoyed fish fries and a simple way of life. She was a wonderful example to her family and they will remember her as the perfect mother. Elly will be deeply missed by all of those she came in contact with and especially her family.

Elly is survived by son, David Cox and wife Jody of Lufkin, Texas; daughter, Sheila Isonhood and husband Lindley of Friendswood, Tx; sister, Emily Holden and husband Herb of Nacogdoches; grandchildren, Misty Leigh Pierce, David Scott Baker, James Robert “Bobby” Isonhood, Jimmy Ray Isonhood, Lisa Renee Mills Jennesa McBride; and many great-grandchildren.
