Fellow Nacogdoches County Democrats,
We had a fantastic time at last week’s Blueberry Festival and had many “newbies” signed up to be on our email list (welcome to your first email update!). We still have a few Obama 2012 stickers and can mail one to you for a donation of $3 (our address is below). There is still quite a bit going on during this summer with our County Dems. To keep it all straight, here’s a calendar (long version). Be sure to mark these dates down!
1) Thurs, June 16th — June luncheon at Casa Tomas (1514 N. Street), beginning at noon. Contact Doris Daniel (564-3264) to RSVP.
2) Sat, June 18th — Juneteenth Parade/Celebration (downtown and Kiwanis Park). Parade begins at 11:00 and the festival goes until 4:00. We will be hosting a booth and have a couple of open slots to fill, so email me if you can help!
3) Thurs, June 23rd — Democratic meeting to hear proposed county redistricting layout from Judge English, beginning at 6:00 at the County Courthouse Annex (101 W. Main St.). We need as many people as possible to attend to give feedback!
4) Thurs, June 30th — Public hearing for proposed county redistricting layout at the County Courthouse Annex, beginning at 6:00.
5) Thurs, July 14th — Regular monthly meeting at 5:30 at the County Courthouse Annex.
6) Sat, August 6th — Texas Democratic Women “Beans-and-Jeans” fundraiser. More details to be announced soon.
7) Thurs, Sept. 8th — Executive Committee meeting at the County Courthouse Annex, beginning at 5:30. All Dems are invited to this meeting, but the committee decides all official action. My proposed resignation as County Chairman and the election of a new interim County Chairperson will be on the agenda.
This is a list of major dates and not all are included (we will more than likely have July and August luncheons). Future emails will be sent to remind you of each date, but be sure to mark these down.
In the meantime, stay involved in political news. Despite having a tough legislative session where we’ve seen the majority party run our state into the ground, we’ve had some small victories on public education at the state level recently (maintaining class-size regulations, possibly securing any excess “Rainy Day” funds for our schools, etc). More info can be found at the Texas Tribune (http://www.texastribune.org/). For national and international news, I recommend http://www.politico.com/ and http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world/, respectively. Local happenings can be found at http://dailysentinel.com/ or http://everythingnac.com/.
Thanks for your commitment to our party. We continue to give voice to our local Democrats, but we need your help. Get involved and/or make a much-needed donation to our party (these can be mailed to Nacogdoches County Democrats, P.O. Box 633961, Nacogdoches, TX 75963) and let’s continue to move toward turning Texas blue!
We leave you with some motivation to get involved and get out the vote:
