Brittian Allen Thruston

     A Funeral Service for Brittian Allen Thruston, 95, will be Monday, April 25, 2011 at 11:00 am at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel. Interment will follow at Pilgrim Rest Cemetery in Martinsville.

     Allen passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2011, in Nacogdoches.

     Brittian Allen Thruston was born September 25, 1915 to Henry A. and Laura Ellen Brittian Thruston. He lived in Nacogdoches County his entire life with the exception of stints in the U. S. Navy in World War II, U. S. Coast Guard, and U. S. Merchant Marines. He spent a total of 43 years at sea, ending his career as Ship Captain in the U. S. Merchant Marines.

     He married LaVerne Martin on January 22, 1942 in Port Arthur, Texas, where she resided during his service in World War II. They were happily married for 69 years.

     He retired to his home place of 354 acres adjoining the Attoyac River, continuing his love of farming and ranching. He had a great respect for the outdoors and loved fishing and hunting. He was also a great storyteller.

     He served as a deacon at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. He was an active member of the San Augustine Rotary Club and Rotary International.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and a loyal friend to many.

     Survivors include his wife, LaVerne Thruston of Martinsville; daughter Laura Rowe and husband Charles of Center, Texas; son, Wallace Thruston and wife Isabel of Santa Barbara, California; grandson Jason Butler and wife Helen of Round Rock, Texas, granddaughter, Jennifer Jones and husband Kevin of Center, Texas; great-grandchildren, Brooke and Tiffany Butler of Round Rock, Texas; Collin, Ryan and Camille Jones of Center, Texas.

     Visitation will be from 9:00 am until service time on Monday, April 25, 2011.
