Officers of the Nacogdoches Police Department are continuing the investigation into an early Sunday morning accident that resulted in the death of a Nacogdoches County Deputy Sheriff.
Deputy Morgan J. Sheppard, who was off duty, was operating a 1998 Honda motorcycle northbound on North Street in the 2800 block when he struck a 2007 Chrysler driven by Spencer Alan Arellano, 22 of Hewitt. The Chrysler was exiting a private drive onto North Street.
Deputy Sheppard died at a local hospital.
No charges have been filed at this time, but the case remains under investigation.
“The investigation is in the preliminary stages. A reconstruction team has done an on-scene inspection and there are witnesses to be interviewed”, said NPD Sgt. Greg Sowell. “We will be awaiting the results from laboratory analysis on evidence submitted”, he said.
The case is being investigated by the NPD Traffic Division.
