SFA trombone professor to commemorate 9/11

Stephen F. Austin State University trombone professor Deb Scott and fellow musicians will commemorate 9/11 with a faculty recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, in Cole Concert Hall. The program will include a piece that features the trombone and a recording of sound bytes from interviews with U.S. soldiers severely wounded in the Iraq War. The piece is recommended for mature audiences.

Joining Scott for the program’s opening piece, “Suite for Alto Trombone and String Quartet” by Corrado Maria Saglietti, will be violinists Jennifer Dalmas and Brandon Pierce, violist Melissa Nabb and cellist Evgeni Raychev.

As a soloist, Scott will perform Bendkyki Konowalski’s “Ecumenical Tryptych.” She and pianist James Pitts will close the program with “Blue Bells of Scotland,” an early 20thcentury piece by Arthur Pryor, a famous trombone soloist with the John Philip Sousa band.

Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $2 for students. For tickets or more information, please visit www.finearts.sfasu.edu or call (936) 468-6407 or (888) 240-ARTS.
