Obituary: Dr. Robert Frank Smith

     Dr. Robert Frank Smith, age 78, of Nacogdoches, Texas, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at a Nacogdoches hospital.

     Dr. Smith was born Jan. 20, 1933, in Grand Saline, Texas, to Kermit Harper Smith and Meral Pickens Smith. He was a 1950 graduate of Grand Saline High School. Following graduation, he attended Decatur Baptist Jr. College and the University of North Texas.

     In 1963, Dr. Smith began his career at Stephen F. Austin State University, Nacogdoches, in the school of education. He retired from SFA in 1997.

     Frank was married Nov. 8, 1957, to Margery Wyatt. They have been members of the First United Methodist Church for several years.

     He is survived by his wife of over 53 years, Margery Smith of Nacogdoches; his son, Blake Smith of Baytown; grandsons, Ryan Smith and Robert Smith, both of Deer Park, Texas; and a sister, Nancy Williams of Grove City, Ohio.

     He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Larry Smith.

     Memorial services are set for 9:30 a.m. Monday, July 11, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel, 5400 North Street in Nacogdoches. Officiating will be Dr. Bill Gandin, pastor of the First United Methodist Church.
