The Nacogdoches Police Department has identified the persons involved in a fatal New Year’s Eve auto-pedestrian accident.

Jimmy Dewayne Watts, 32, of Nacogdoches was driving a Chrysler 200 passenger car westbound on Park Street approximately 8:45 pm on Tuesday evening, New Year’s eve. Watt’s vehicle collided with a pedestrian, Kerrie Laverne Qualls, 44, of Lufkin, who was in the roadway on Park Street near the intersection of Crisp Rd. Qualls was killed on impact.

Nacogdoches police officers have been investigating the incident since it occurred. Officers are speaking with witnesses and following up on leads as to how the accident happened. An autopsy has been ordered by the Justice of the Peace.

No charges have been filed as of this time.

(December 31, 2019) The Nacogdoches Police Department is currently investigating a fatal traffic accident that occurred on Park St. Around 9:00 p.m. the police department received a 911 call of a pedestrian that was struck by a vehicle near the intersection of Park St and Crisp Rd. Officers arrived to the accident scene and found the pedestrian deceased from the injuries of the collision. The driver of the vehicle that struck the pedestrian was still on scene. The identity of the victim, who is an adult female, will be released at a later time pending notification of next of kin.

At this time officers are still on the scene of the accident. All of Park st will remain closed from Northeast Stallings Dr. to Tower Rd for the remainder of the night. Motorists are advised to seek an alternate route. As further information becomes available it will be released.
