The Stephen F. Austin State University student chapter of The Wildlife Society is hosting a fall fundraising raffle for two guided hunts.

One hunt, located in West Texas, will be for the harvest of an aoudad ram, while the second offers duck hunting in the coastal marshes of Southeast Texas. Meals and lodging are included in both hunts.

“Hunting is the main funding mechanism through which the United States funds wildlife management and conservation,” said Jake Hill, forest wildlife management sophomore and vice president of the SFA chapter.

Hill explained that funds generated through the purchase of hunting licenses, as well as excise taxes placed on fire arms, ammunition and all hunting equipment, is redistributed to state wildlife agencies to fund operational and conservation efforts.

The cost to enter the raffle is $5 per ticket, $20 for five tickets and $100 for 30 tickets. Winners will be drawn on Nov. 15 during the chapter’s annual fundraising dinner.

“Hunting really connects people to the land and shows them where their food truly comes from,” Hill said. “It’s a great way to incentivize good land husbandry and stewardship of our resources.”
