SFA School of Theatre alters performance schedule for ‘The Maids’

Because of last week’s winter storm and campus closure, the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre has altered this week’s performance schedule for Jean Genet’s “The Maids.”

“The Maids” will open at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, with additional performances at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28. Inspired by an actual murder case, “The Maids” shows the title characters, Solange and Claire, entertaining violent fantasies about murdering their employer. The work explores issues of violence, jealousy, mental health, sexuality, gender and class. The play is recommended for mature audiences.

General ticket prices are: adult, $15; senior (62+), $10; non-SFA student, $10; SFA faculty/staff, $7.50; youth, $7.50; SFA student, $5; virtual access, $15. SFA School of Art reschedules artists’ virtual talks

Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art has rescheduled exhibition talks with artists Sarah Fisher and Karen Eisele via Zoom for 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25.

The exhibitions – Fisher and Rachel Anderson’s “Found/Loaded” and Eisele’s “Encoded” – are showing in The Ed and Gwen Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, SFA’s historic downtown art gallery. The shows can be viewed in person through March 20.

Pre-registration is required to participate in the virtual artist talks and a gallery tour. Registration can be accessed at art.sfasu.edu/gallerytalk.

SFA Symphony Orchestra concert rescheduled

A concert by the Stephen F. Austin State University Symphony Orchestra, originally scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 23, is rescheduled for Friday night, Feb. 26, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

The Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Dr. Gregory Grabowski, will perform Max Richter’s “The Four Seasons Recomposed” at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Seating is limited, and audience members must wear facial coverings and socially distance themselves from others not in their immediate group.

Based on Antonio Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons,” Richter’s “The Four Seasons Recomposed” will feature SFA’s Dr. Jennifer Dalmas on violin.

The concert will also feature Antonin Dvorak’s “Wind Serenade,” conducted by SFA graduate student Matthew Warren of Santa Fe, Texas.

Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and $3 for students and youth. To purchase tickets, call the SFA Fine Arts Box Office at (936) 468-6407 or visit www.finearts.sfasu.edu.
