CRIMINAL MISCHIEF; 700 BLOCK OF NORTH MOUND. SEVERAL LETTERS FROM A SIGN WERE STOLEN BY UNKNOWN SUSPECTS.
AGGRAVATED ROBBERY; 3200 BLOCK OF NORTH PECAN. A FEMALE WAS WALKING DOWN THE STREET WHEN AN UNKNOWN MALE SUSPECT CAME UP BEHIND HER AND TORE HER PURSE OFF ER SHOULDER. THE VICTIM ATTEMPTED TO STRUGGLE WITH THE SUSPECT, AND SHE WAS CUT ON THE FOREARM WITH A SHARP OBJECT. THE SUSPECT THEN RAN FROM THE AREA. NO SERIOUS INJURY; INVESTIGATION CONTINUING. THIS OCCURRED AROUND 11:00 AM THURSDAY.
DWI-HIT AND RUN; 1500 BLOCK OF DOLPH STREET. A MAN DRIVING A VEHICLE STRUCK A PARKED VEHICLE IN OAKHILL PLAZA. THE SUSPECT THEN EXITED THE VEHICLE AND ATTEMPTED TO WALK OFF. THE SUSPECT WAS CONTACTED AND FOUND TO BE INTOXICATED AND WAS ARRESTED.
BURGLARY OF A VEHICLE; 400 BLOCK OF STEEN DRIVE. AN UNSECURED VEHICLE WAS ENTERED AND AN IPOD WAS REMOVED.
BURGLARY OF A VEHICLE; 400 BLOCK OF STEEN DRIVE. WITNESSES REPORTED A MAN LOOKING INTO VEHICLES. OFFICERS RESPONDED TO THE AREA OF OLD LINE DRIVE. TWO SUSPECTS WERE FOUND BY OFFICERS EXITING THE WOODS. ONE MALE SUSPECT WAS ARRESTED AND THE OTHER ESCAPED BACK INTO THE WOODS.

THEFT; 2300 BLOCK OF NORTH STREET. A VIDEO SHOWED A MALE SUSPECT STEALING TWO TEXTBOOKS FROM A STORE. THE SUSPECT THEN WENT BACK INSIDE AND SOLD THE TEXTBOOKS BACK TO THE STORE.
ROBBERY; 1800 BLOCK OF NORTH STREET. A MAN WAS WALKING IN A PARKING LOT TALKING ON A CELL PHONE. ONE SUSPECT RAN UP TO HIM AND TACKLED HIM TO THE GROUND. ANOTHER SUSPECT WENT THROUGH THE VICTIM’S POCKETS AND REMOVED HIS WALLET AND TOOK HIS PHONE. ONE OF THE SUSPECTS WAS DESCRIBED AS A BLACK MALE WEARING SILVER SHORTS.
ASSAULT; 1000 BLOCK OF EAST MAIN. COMPLAINANT REPORTED BEING ASSAULTED BY A KNOWN SUSPECT. THE VICTIM SUSTAINED A CUT TO THE FOREHEAD WHICH REQUIRED STITCHES. WARRANT REQUESTED.
BURGLARY OF A VEHICLE; 3200 BLOCK OF PEARL. A WINDOW ON A VEHICLE WAS BROKEN OUT AND A POOL CUE WAS TAKEN.
ASSAULT; 3000 BLOCK OF NORTH PECAN. COMPLAINANT REPORTED BEING ASSAULTED BY A KNOWN SUSPECT DURING A DISTURBANCE. THE VICTIM HAD A TOOTH KNOCKED OUT AND A INJURY TO THE BACK OF THE HEAD. NO LIFE THREATENING INJURY; WARRANT REQUESTED.

Wright (Democratic): Election Day Homestretch!
Stephen Wright, Nacogdoches Democratic Chair:
Fellow Nacogdoches Democrats,
We are in the homestretch! Election day is six days away. Thanks to everyone for your committed work and support in this election. Still, we can’t stop working now. We need maximum effort through Tuesday to get out the vote. You, your Democratic family, friends, coworkers, neighbors, and all Dems, need to make their voice heard! If we all get out to the polls, we win the Governor’s race for Bill White, sweep our other statewide races, make sure Kenneth Franks is our next State Representative, solidify Reggie Cotton as our Precinct 2 County Commissioner, and win the Precinct 4 County Commissioner seat for Lane Bradshaw. We can do it, but only if we keep pushing the vote out. So, check out our upcoming activism below, personally find five Democratic folks to get out the polls, and let’s turn Texas and Nacogdoches County deep Democratic blue!
1) Early voting hours continue through Friday, October 29th at the Nacogdoches County Courthouse from 7AM-7PM.
2) We will be taking part in the SFA homecoming parade and need volunteers to ride or walk the route with signs. Meet us at 8:00AM at Headquarters (901 E. Main) on Saturday, October 30th. We will have doughnuts!
3) WE NEED CANDY! Our County Party will have a much-needed booth at the Scare-on-the-Square festivities on the night of Saturday, October 30th, but we still need candy donations. Drop a bag or two by Headquarters (901 E. Main).
4) Sign-distribution to the polling locations will tale place on Monday, November 1st beginning at 6:00 PM at Headquarters (901 E. Main). We have several locations in which to get signs out to, so come help us out. We will have free pizza!
5) Election Day is November 2nd! Precinct locations are listed below and the polls are open from 7AM-7PM (for folks who normally vote at Austin Height Baptist Church, note the change in location to Calvary Baptist Church). We will have Dems at Headquarters that day, so if you have any voting problems, questions, or need a ride to the polls, call us at 462-1210. Also, join us at 7:00 that evening at Headquarters (901 E. Main) as we celebrate incoming election results. We will have free pizza!
6) If you haven’t heard Nacogdoches resident Christian Cutler’s story and the subsequent shameful response from Representative Louie Gohmert’s office, check out this link: http://www.cnn.com/video/data/2.0/video/politics/2010/10/26/ac.terror.babies.fallout.cnn.html. This now national news, as it should be.
7) On a final note, Precinct Chairman and former County Chairman Hall Nichols is undergoing cancer treatment at the Willowbrook Center on 227 Russell Boulevard in Nacogdoches. I visited him yesterday, and although weak, he is fired up about the election and even engaged some of the Willowbrook staff during my short visit, encouraging them to vote Democratic! Hall wanted me to tell everyone of you to keep up the good fight and said he fully expected to see Bill White elected Governor. He would also love to have visitors from his Democratic friends, so drop by and see him in ROOM 602!
That’s it until this weekend when we’ll get out a reminder email. We still need everyone’s help, so drop by the office to volunteer, make a donation, or grab a yard sign. Nacogdoches County is destined to return to its Democratic roots and this election is part of that process. Get out and vote, vote, vote!

THEFT; 4900 BLOCK OF NORTH STREET. AN UNKNOWN SUSPECT ENTERED A STORE AND STOLE A PAIR OF SHOES.
BURGLARY OF A VEHICLE; 2300 BLOCK OF PEARL STREET. $100.00 WAS TAKEN FROM A PARKED VEHICLE AFTER UNKNOWN PERSONS FORCED ENTRY INSIDE.
BURGLARY OF A HABITATION; 3100 BLOCK OF SANTA FE PLACE. A KNOWN FEMALE SUSPECT ENTERED COMPLAINANT’S RESIDENCE WITHOUT PERMISSION, WENT TO THE KITCHEN AND RETRIEVED A KITCHEN KNIFE. THE FEMALE THEN CAME AT THE COMPLAINANT, WHO GRABBED THE KNIFE. THE COMPLAINANT SUSTAINED A CUT HAND WHEN HE GRABBED THE KNIFE. THE COMPLAINANT THEN FLED THE RESIDENCE. THE SUSPECT WAS GONE ON POLICE ARRIVAL. WARRANT REQUESTED.
HARASSMENT; 2400 BLOCK OF PETTIT. COMPLAINANT ADVISED THAT A KNOWN SUSPECT CALLED HIM AND THREATENED HIM.
POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA; 500 BLOCK OF NORTH UNIVERSITY DRIVE. A VEHICLE WAS STOPPED FOR TRAFFIC. A SMALL AMOUNT OF SUSPECTED MARIJUANA WAS FOUND ON THE SEAT. THE SUSPECT WAS ARRESTED.
ROBBERY; 200 BLOCK OF STONE STREET. THREE BLACK MALE SUSPECTS WEARING DARK CLOTHING AND FACE MASKS ATTACKED A MAN AND TOOK HIS WALLET. THEY THEN FLED IN A VEHICLE.
AGGRAVATED ASSAULT; 800 BLOCK OF NORTH STREET. WHILE EMPLOYEES WERE REMODELING THE RENT-A-CENTER, THEY DISCOVERED A HISPANIC MALE EXITING THE RESTROOM AT 400 AM. HE TRIED TO GET OUT BUT ALL OF THE DOORS WERE LOCKED. AN EMPLOYEE APPROACHED THE SUSPECT WHO PRODUCED A KNIFE AND BEGAN WAVING IT AROUND. THE SUSPECT THEN EXITED THE EMERGENCY EXIT. OFFICER PURSUED THE SUSPECT ON FOOT, BUT DID NOT APPREHEND HIM.

History and Word Choice
We know that there are different ways to communicate what has happened, depending on what outcome the different historians want to frame or support as the one that best communicates their interpretation of the facts that are known. Different people tell what they saw or experienced from their own point of view, and we need to understand why they might think as they do if we want to understand for ourselves. Learning their way of putting things and why they think that way allows us to understand the facts in context. We need to understand from others in order to think for ourselves. Their word choice reveals their point of view, and this is how history is painted or created. We might think that there is only one way to interpret the facts, but we will understand a lot more when we know how everyone feels and thinks about it all. Let’s look at examples of history and word choice in the country of Tibet, our lives, society, and in an area of interest.
Tibet is at “the top of the world,” they say, with an average elevation of 16,000 feet, well out of the way of anyone who might think of them as an enemy, and yet they have a reputation of having such a non-violent attitude about life that they have become infamous for being fiercely courageous in the jaws of their enemies. “They call their country Pöd yul and themselves Pöd pas.” There seem to have been no wars in Tibetan history since the Non-violent revolution begun early last Century; the Dalai Lama’s have brought a peaceful face to the top of the world. This is not to say that the Tibetans have stood by idly as they were attacked by the Chinese or that they have unilaterally staved off the subtleties of propaganda, through the British or the Americans; certainly they have been the brunt of several attacks, including the demolition by the Chinese in 1951 -1959, a destruction that brought the end of nearly 30,000 holy shrines and temples, and the creation of the world’s largest internment camp. The Dalai Lama, sometimes sited as a despot by the Chinese leadership, received the Noble Peace Prize, and has been around the world working on international peace. The world appeal for peace and reconciliation as proposed by the Tibetan community in exile is a tall order given that it is a country without its traditional leadership; its lands were taken by force, and its cities are over-run with foreigners, the Chinese numbering an additional 8 million people among them, and still the Tibetans yearn for world peace. 1991 was the International Year of Tibet, and worldwide people tended to their needs and history; this year I will be 57, and I am still, even just now, learning about myself.
I see myself as wearing several different hats in life, and I have to communicate differently when I change hats. School is a place where I can both be myself, and call for the risk-taking of self-disclosure from my fellow students; I exclaim their courage and uphold the testimony of their strength. My home is a testament to my having a single purpose in a space; my wife and I live in a barn-like structure that resembles a church, has the patio of a barn, and allows us to rest as ourselves together as best friends. Blogging is an activity that I really like, but it is often confusing because some people use the same words to describe different things, for example universalism, as in this question I gave on Amazon, “runningturtle87 says: Coleman, the word “universalism” is a sticky wicket since it means many things to many people. Please clarify what you mean by this term.” Racquetball has been a very important sport in my life since I have never been too successful at team sports; I view racquetball as one person playing against all comers, and so it has brought out the gladiator in me. My own way of engaging the world requires me to think, talk, and act in my own way in terms of the iconology I use to interface with others, but the way they communicate back is often surreal and encoded to me and gives me a sense of my being foreign if not alien in their eyes, and likewise.
People in society also wear many hats and talk about these roles in contradiction. Age is a hat that is not going to go away; to my older friends I am a kid; to my younger friends I am an old goat, to my peers in age I am intense; they all see me as odd, unless they need me to help them through a crisis, then I’m just plain Chris. Teachers are odd sorts of people in our society today, and, even though at one time they received much more prestige than they do now, they presently are often seen as tools of the system and used by the administration to function in certain capacities in order to complete its given missions. Religion/spirituality is often a confusing word that many people assume means one thing to all people but can have various meanings even in the same conversation between two people; for myself, I tend to think of religion as what man does to find God, and I think of spirituality as what God has done to help man know Him; I’m not so keen on the former, and I am a big believer in the latter. “Education” is definitely abused by many people as far as I am concerned; many people think of an education as what we get from teachers, but as a teacher I tend to think of an education as what I get from my students: Education… “to bring out that which is within.” Alternatively, within the field of sociology, the study of human interaction has drilled down on racism in all of its various forms and found a wealth of vocabulary to talk about a dearth of understanding.
In specific, one area where people tend to have a strong point of view is in the area of Race. A limited vocabulary hampers people from their being able to discuss the truth, and, above all, being less than truthful, they cannot be honest, even with themselves. Bias is a limited perception and underscores the lack of fully honest minds which might blame others for their own lack of perception; thus is the biased mind lacking in seeing its own limits. Segregation, the concept that independence is to be applied above interdependence, is a dance of society that both weakens its resolve to act interdependently, and strengthens the thought that separation is somehow a better choice, breaking with unity. Inter-marriage conceptually begins with separation and ends with interdependence, strengthened genes, and wider social bonds if people do not subscribe to bias and segregation. We can see that social blindness, in fact any kind of blindness, really gets down to how we perceive our circumstances, but there are none so blind as those who want others to see what they themselves cannot see.
Whatever must we think whenever someone asks us a question and we have to think about if he wants us to answer with what we know or with what we think we know? The reality is that we only “refer” to everything, and yet we talk about things as if we absolutely know anything at all! History is the story of how one person’s perceptions of what happened eventually became dominate over all the other versions, really. And the vocabulary that he chose to use to dominate the scene was in fact a concocted list of words that were used to manufacture a line of thinking that even the speaker may not have fully understood or believed. How can we even begin to discuss these things? Eventually, the master of all things, time itself, will tell us if our ideas were sound or if we have merely gotten lost in the narrative we became addicted to in our story of how we came to know it all.

THEFT; 1700 BLOCK OF MLK. COMPLAINANT’S PARKED VEHICLE HAD THE GLASS MIRROR TAKEN OUT FROM THE MIRROR HOLDER.
DWLI; 100 BLOCK OF EAST COLLEGE. OFFICER STOPPED A VEHICLE ON A TRAFFIC CHARGE. THE DRIVER WAS FOUND TO HAVE A SUSPENDED DRIVERS LICENSE AND NO INSURANCE ON THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVER WAS ARRESTED.
HIT AND RUN; 3600 BLOCK OF OLD TYLER ROAD. COMPLAINANT REPORTED THAT AN UNKNOWN BLACK CAR CAUSED AN ACCIDENT WHICH CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE COMPLAINANT’S VEHICLE. THE BLACK VEHICLE DID NOT STOP.

DWI-POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA-DWLI; 2000 BLOCK OF NORTH STREET. OFFICERS RECEIVED A CALL OF A SUSPECT PASSED OUT IN A DRIVE THRU. OFFICERS CONTACTED THE SUSPECT WHO THEY SUSPECTED OF BEING INTOXICATED. HE WAS ARRESTED AND FOUND TO BE IN POSSESSION OF SUSPECTED MARIJUANA AND HIS LICENSE WERE SUSPENDED.
CREDIT CARD ABUSE; 1400 BLOCK OF NORTH STREET. COMPLAINANT APPARENTLY LOST A CREDIT CARD WHILE IN A STORE. THE CREDIT CARD REPORTEDLY WAS USED AT TWO BUSINESSES WITHOUT PERMISSION.

FORGERY; 200 BLOCK OF EAST MAIN. AN UNKNOWN SUSPECT TOOK A BLANK CHECK AND SIGNED COMPLAINANT’S NAME TO IT AND CASHED IT.
