Funeral service for Mrs. Virginia Annette Sessions Montes, 50, of Nacogdoches will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2011, at 10:00 am at Laird Funeral Home with Father Joseph Lourdasamy and Deacon Billy Mitchell officiating. Burial will be at Moral Cemetery. Mrs. Montes was born on August 4, 1960, in Marshall, Texas. She died on March 2, 2011, in Nacogdoches. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:30 with a Rosary beginning at 7:30 at Laird Funeral Home.

Pedro “Pete” Mendez
Pedro “Pete” Mendez was recently arrested for indecency with a child.
One might remember Mr. Mendez as the proprietor of the cock fighting ring near Woden a couple of years ago.
NCSO is currently working on several alleged cases including Murder for Hire and Child Abduction. The investigations continue.
We are currently investigating a child abduction. The child was taken from the mother’s residence a short while ago. The child has been recovered and appears to be in good condition. Two suspects were seen fleeing the area. It appears the mother has been a target of several threats within the past two weeks. These threats began after she separated from her husband. The investigation continues.
On March 2, 2011, an officer was dispatched to the Student Recreation Center in reference to a theft. Upon arrival the officer made contact with the complainant who stated that between the hours of 5:50pm and 6:20pm an unknown person took his unattended cellular phone. There is no suspect.

Italian virtuosi flutist Raffaele Trevisani and his wife, pianist Paola Girardi, will present a guest artist recital at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 7, in Cole Concert Hall as part of the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music’s Cole Performing Arts Series.
As performers in major halls throughout Europe, Asia, the Americas and South Africa, they are praised for their style and musicality, explained Dr. Christina Guenther, SFA assistant professor of flute. “We are delighted to have them perform on campus.”
Raffaele Trevisani and Paola Girardi of Milan, Italy, will give a guest flute and piano recital at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 7, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.
The duo’s program includes Francois Borne’s “Carmen Fantasie,” Gaetoano Donizetti’s “Sonata,” Antonín Dvorák’s “Sonatina, Op. 100” and Giuseppe Verdi’s “Variations on La Traviata.”
After receiving his diploma from the Giuseppe Verdi Music Conservatory in Milan, Trevisani quickly became a private student of Sir James Galway. For four years, Trevisani collaborated with the Orchestra of Teatro alla Scala in Milan, and for the last 20 years, he has been performing as a soloist with orchestras and in well-known music festivals all over the world.
Trevisani has performed world concerto premieres dedicated to him by composers Carlo Galante, Alberto Colla, Hendrik Hofmeyr, Stephen Yip, Gary Shoker and Ernani Aguiar and has played duo concerts with Maxence Larrieu and with Sir James Galway for Italian Television.
Girardi also graduated from the Verdi Conservatory and then studied at the Respighi Academy in Assisi and the Chigiana Academy in Siena. She has studied with the Tchaikowsky Trio, Quartetto Academica, Fine Arts Quartet and Trio of Trieste.
As a collaborative artist, she has performed with Maxence Larrieu and Ilya Grubert, and regularly with Trevisani.
Both Trevisani and Girardi teach at the International Academy of Music of the Milan Foundation of Civic Schools.

The Great Texas Warrant Roundup begins this Saturday, March 5. Officers from over 240 jurisdictions in Texas will be serving warrants on individuals with outstanding charges.
The Nacogdoches Municipal Court will open this Saturday, to give those with outstanding warrants an opportunity to resolve them. The court will be open from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
Affected persons are urged to contact the court to dispose of outstanding warrants voluntarily. Failure to do so will subject these individuals to arrest at home or work.

Liska Faye Burt Fancher, 64, of Garrison, Texas, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at a Nacogdoches hospital.
Mrs. Fancher was born Sept. 26, 1946, in Nacogdoches to Travis James “Sport” Burt and Ruby Nell Fears Burt. She was a homemaker. She and James A. Fancher were married July 2, 1971.
She is survived by her mother, Ruby Nell Burt of Nacogdoches; daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Johnny Williamson of Garrison; son and daughter-in-law, Shane and Tana Elliott of Houston; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Tyler Copeland and Julie, Heath Copeland, Logan Elliott, Sadie Elliott, six step-grandchildren, and six step-great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Peggy Burt of Garrison; sisters-in-law, Sharon Fancher and Brenda Fancher, both of Martinsville; and other relatives, including Karen Elliott and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Fancher; and her father, Sport Burt.
Funeral services are set for 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2011, at the Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel, Nacogdoches. Interment will follow at Libby Cemetery in Nacogdoches County.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 3, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors, 5400 North Street in Nacogdoches.
