Yates (Republican): The Disaster in Japan and what we can do
Friends and Fellow Republicans:
Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by the horrific earthquake in Japan and the devastating Pacific tsunami.
The United States of America has the earned the reputation as the most generous nation in the world. It is now, once again, time to live up to that reputation.

INVESTIGATION CONTINUES INTO FATAL ACCIDENT
Officers of the Nacogdoches Police Department are continuing the investigation into an early Sunday morning accident that resulted in the death of a Nacogdoches County Deputy Sheriff.
Deputy Morgan J. Sheppard, who was off duty, was operating a 1998 Honda motorcycle northbound on North Street in the 2800 block when he struck a 2007 Chrysler driven by Spencer Alan Arellano, 22 of Hewitt. The Chrysler was exiting a private drive onto North Street.
Deputy Sheppard died at a local hospital.
No charges have been filed at this time, but the case remains under investigation.
“The investigation is in the preliminary stages. A reconstruction team has done an on-scene inspection and there are witnesses to be interviewed”, said NPD Sgt. Greg Sowell. “We will be awaiting the results from laboratory analysis on evidence submitted”, he said.
The case is being investigated by the NPD Traffic Division.

City of Nacogdoches Water Office to close for funeral service
The City of Nacogdoches water department offices will be closed on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. to allow staff members to attend the funeral service of water department employee B.D. Rambin’s father.
“We are truly sorry for any inconvenience this may cause our citizens, however we feel it is very important for our staff members to be able to grieve appropriately for this loss,” said Accounting & Utility Billing Manager Pam Curbow.

MAYOR PROCLAIMS MARCH 14-18 AS FLOOD AWARENESS WEEK
Mayor Roger Van Horn
Nacogdoches Mayor Roger Van Horn has proclaimed March 14-18 as Flood Awareness Week in the City of Nacogdoches. This proclamation is in conjunction with National Flood Awareness Week.
The week is designed to remind the public about the forces of running water and the danger of attempting to cross it. Flash flooding can occur during or immediately after a thunderstorm or heavy rainfall.
“Everyone should remember if you encounter high water running across a roadway, you should never attempt to cross it. This should be the rule, no matter if you are walking or driving”, said Sgt. Greg Sowell, Public Information Officer for Emergency Management. “The slogan “Turn Around-Don’t Drown” certainly applies”.
