COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ISSUE BURN BAN
The Nacogdoches County Commissioners Court has issued a BURN BAN effective immediately for Nacogdoches County, Texas.
This order prohibits all outdoor burning within Nacogdoches County, except as outlined in the attached order.
This order will remain active for 90 (ninety) days, unless rescinded by the Court.

April 18: SFA Crime Log
On 4-17-2011 an Officer was dispatched to Hall 20 in reference to Terroristic Threat. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with two complainants, who advised on 7-17-2011 they were threatened by two known subjects on Wilson Dr. There are two suspects.
On 4-17-2011 an Officer was dispatched to Carolyn St. in reference to a Verbal Disturbance. The Officer made contact with three subjects; one of the subjects was not an SFA student and gave the Officer a fictitious name. The subject was arrested and transported to the Nacogdoches County Jail without incident. There are three suspects.
On 4-17-2011 an Officer observed a Verbal Disturbance in the Lumberjack Village Parking Garage. The Officer made contact with a subject who the Officer determined to be intoxicated in a public place. The subject was arrested and transported to the Nacogdoches County Jail without incident. There is one suspect.
On 4-17-2011 an Officer observed a Verbal Disturbance in the 200 block of Carolyn St. The Officer made contact with numerous subjects. One of the subjects advised that she was offended by a subject’s language. The subject who was not a SFA student was arrested and transported to the Nacogdoches County Jail without incident. There is one suspect.
On 4-17-2011 an Officer was dispatched to Steen Hall in reference to a Drug Complaint. Upon arrival the officer located four subjects in possession of marihuana and drug paraphernalia. There are four suspects.
On 4-16-2011 an Officer observed an occupied suspicious vehicle parked in lot 56. The Officer made contact with four subjects inside the vehicle and located the four subjects in possession of marihuana. All four subjects were arrested and transported to the Nacogdoches County Jail without incident. There are four suspects.

Celebrate San Jacinto Day on April 21
(Click to make larger) The Surrender of Santa Anna was painted by William Henry Huddle to depict the morning after Texas victory over Mexico at the Battle of San Jacinto.
The City of Nacogdoches Historic Sites Department and the Daughters of the Republic of Texas cordially invite you to join them in their celebration of San Jacinto Day. The celebration will take place at Aldolphus Sterne’s home, financier of the revolution, early Nacogdoches merchant and Texas legislator. Much of Nacogdoches’ involvement in the war against Mexico can be contributed to Mr. Sterne and his devotion to the cause.
With Sterne’s hands in almost everything that dealt with the revolution, it only seems fitting that the San Jacinto Day celebration take place at his home. So come out and do just that; show your Texas pride on Thursday, April 21st from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sterne Hoya House Museum and Library located at 211 South Lanana Street. A proclamation will be presented by Mayor Roger Van Horn immediately followed by the reading of the names of the men who fought in the Battle of San Jacinto. Period music will be played and light refreshments will be served. The finale of the celebration will be a toast at 3:30 p.m. around the time the battle ended. Parking is limited so be sure to come early!
Prior to the celebration at Sterne-Hoya, don’t miss the historic tree planting dedication that will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery, located on Lanana Street, at 2:30 p.m. where a San Antonia Live Oak will be planted by the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.
The event coordinators encourage the whole Nacogdoches community to come out and help celebrate one of the most important days in Texas history. If you cannot make it to the celebration, be sure to make a toast to Texas at 3:30 p.m. wherever you are! Hurrah for Texas!

THE 2010 HISTORIC PRESERVATION AWARD WINNER
Mayor Roger Van Horn presents 2010 Preservation Award to owners representative Jim Blackburn.
Every year, the Nacogdoches Historic Landmark Preservation Committee seeks to honor a local preservationist; someone who has helped to preserve a piece of Nacogdoches history. The committee examines restoration efforts completed the previous year and chooses the project that shows exceptional merit in the field of historic preservation.
This year the committee had a particularly tough decision to make as there were five highly merited projects.
Ultimately, the Nacogdoches Historic Landmark Preservation Committee chose Bob McCarty for his work at 520 East Pillar. On April 5 Mayor Roger Van Horn, on behalf of the City of Nacogdoches and the Nacogdoches Historical Landmark Preservation Committee (NHLPC) presented the 2010 Nacogdoches Historic Preservation Award to Mr. McCarty’s representative Jim Blackburn.

Blackburn stated, “This award is a real honor and we are happy to be a part of one of the City’s historic districts and to do our part to preserve part of Nacogdoches’ history.
One exceptional aspect of this preservation project is that Mr. McCarty lives out of the area, in fact, out of the state, and yet chose to invest and preserve the history of our beautiful city. We are thankful for the work of Mr. McCarty and all of our local preservationists!

Obituary: Mary Sue Gage
Mary Sue Gage, age 82, passed away Sunday, April 17, 2011, at Palestine Regional Medical Center in Palestine, Texas.
Mrs. Gage was born March 9, 1929, in Alto, to Curby J. McBroom and Ida J. (Pate) McBroom. She was a homemaker and longtime resident of Nacogdoches County.
Survivors include her sons, William David King and wife Arva of Jewett, Texas, and Clyde Herman King and wife Barbara of Dobbins, Texas; three sisters, Ruth Conway of Longview, Texas, Savannah Witt of Nacogdoches, Texas, and Josephine Watkins of Douglass, Texas; four brothers, Olan McBroom of Refugio, Texas, Ruben McBroom of Mineral Wells, Texas, C.J. McBroom of Longview, Texas, and Tommy McBroom of Lufkin, Texas; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was prececed in death by her husbands, Clyde William King and Oby Gage; her parents; two sisters; and a granddaughter.
Funeral services are set for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel, located at 5400 North St., Nacogdoches, Texas, with her grandson, Rev. Darren King, officiating. Interment will follow at Swift Cemetery, located on Hwy. 7 East, Nacogdoches County, Texas.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 19, from 5:pp to 7:00 p.m. at Cason Monk-Metcalf.
Pallbearers will be: Shawn M. Webb, Stephen E. Shelton, William Louden, Tim Franks, Mark Brast, and Mike Brast.
Arrangements are under the direction of Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors, located at 5400 North St., Nacogdoches, Texas. Online condolences accepted at www.casonmonk-metcalf.com.

Yates (Republican): Action Item, Redistricting
Friends and Fellow Republicans:
In the coming days you are going to hear a lot about redistricting. There will be much debate about where the final lines will be drawn.
Below is a must watch Youtube clip that State Representative Wayne Christian has just made. In it you will find some very enlightening information regarding the SBOE redistricting. You will also find out what YOU CAN DO to impact SBOE redistricting. This will also serve as a precursor to other lines being redrawn during redistricting.
Folks, the lines that are drawn will have a tremendous impact on our state and nation. Please let your voices be heard!
