HOMEOWNER INJURED IN BURGLARY

     The Nacogdoches Police Department is investigating an early morning burglary in which a homeowner was injured.

     Officers were called to a residence in the 2300 block of Fore Street early this morning. The homeowner reported that at about 2:45 AM, he was awakened by two suspects forcibly entering his residence.

     Once inside, the suspects, one armed with a handgun and another with a long gun, demanded money. The suspects tied the victim up with electrical wire and began searching the home. At one point, the suspects assaulted the victim my striking him with their fists. The victim was also struck on the head with the handgun, causing a laceration. The victim is a 61 year old male, and was alone in the residence.

     The suspects took a rifle from the residence as well as a pellet gun. After the suspects left, the victim was able to free himself and call police.

     The victim was transported to a local hospital by ambulance for treatment of his injuries.

     The suspects are described as black males in their mid 20’s, dressed in dark clothing and wearing masks. The suspects are believed to have fled the scene on foot.

April 28: SFA Crime Log

     On 4-28-2011 an Officer observed a vehicle that had a damaged window in lot 49. The Owner was contacted, who advised that his radio had been stolen. There are no suspects.

     On 4-27-2011 an Officer was dispatched to the lobby of UPD in reference to Theft. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who advised on 4-26-2011 her unattended cell phone was stolen at Steen Library. There are no suspects.

     On 4-27-2011 an Officer was dispatched to the lobby of UPD in reference to Theft. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who advised on 3-29-2011 his unattended laptop bag was stolen from the Music Building. There are no suspects.

Organic Belgian Blue Beef available this weekend at the market (April 30)

     Bell Brook Farms will be back this Saturday. They sell 90% lean organic Belgian Blue Beef: ground beef (90% & 98% lean), steaks, brisket and roasts.

‘Breasts of Tiresias’ (Today – April 30)

    Stephen F. Austin State University theatre students rehearse the song and dance number that concludes the first act of Guillame Apollinaire’s surreal play “The Breasts of Tiresias,” which the SFA School of Theatre opened on Tuesday and will continue to present at 7:30 nightly through Saturday, April 30, in W.M. Turner Auditorium. Pictured, from left, are British exchange student Hannah Peaker as the Policeman, Weslaco junior Jonathan Garcia as Presto, Dallas senior Rosie Kolbo as The Kiosk, and Lancaster junior Lamar Jefferson as the Husband. SFA to host Farm and Forestry Day (April 30)

    Farm and Forestry Day for area children and their families at Stephen F. Austin State University’s Walter C. Todd Agricultural Research Center will be held from 9 a.m. until noon Saturday, April 30.

    This educational event offers unique outdoor experiences that include an observation bee hive, outdoor cooking, crafts, hayrides, face painting and games. Farms animals, including calves, goats, sheep, horses, chicks and pigs, will be on display.

    “This event provides hands-on instruction opportunities for SFA undergraduate students and a place for graduate student research, as well as services to local producers, FFA members and 4-H members,” said Greg Grant, SFA Gardens outreach research associate.

    The event will take place 5.5 miles north of Nacogdoches on County Road 123 off U.S. Hwy 259. Turn right on County Road 123 and continue past the Equestrian Center to the Beef Center.

     On 4-26-2011 an Officer made contact with a complainant in the lobby of UPD in reference to Credit Card Abuse. The complainant advised that between 4-21-2011 and 4-23-2011 a known person used his debit card without his permission. There is one suspect.
