Two felony arrest for methamphetamine made in the Central Heights area

The Nacogdoches County Constable Office Precinct 4 along with the Constable Office Precinct 1 has conducted two search warrants late Friday afternoon that has resulted in two felony arrest for methamphetamine. Constable Bridges stated that two significant arrests were made in the Central Heights area.
Bridges stated that the investigation started several months ago that was initiated in his precinct from a traffic stop that occurred in the chireno area. Our office was able to identify two suspected targets that we believe has been dealing methamphetamine in the central heights in significant amounts.
The constable office learned through further investigation that a lot of those drugs were coming back into precinct 4 as well as other parts of the county. With the assistance of Constable William Sowell’s office, both agencies were able to monitor and conduct surveillance on two different houses in the central heights area.
Bridges stated that his office was able to establish probable cause for a search warrant that both agencies served Friday evening. Both agencies served search warrants on residences located on Highway 259 and Fm 2664. Six grams of Crystal methamphetamine was recovered from both houses, along with several guns and other drug items and notes. Also seized was over $12,000.00 dollars in currency that has been seized by the Constable Office. Bridges stated that evidence found at the residence and investigations that we have conducted, that we certainly believe that this money has been obtained illegally through drug proceeds.
Bridges stated that these search warrants were only phase one of a much bigger plan that the Constable Office has been working on for about the last year. We have several other drug investigations that are ongoing that we are getting close to wrapping up and several other arrest are pending. Constable Bridges stated that we try to identify the source of where these drugs are coming from. Then we try and identify there source as well. If you really want to stop the amount of drugs coming into your area, you have to be able to identify these dealers.
These drug investigations came be very time consuming, especially for a small office like ours. Bridges praised the work of his deputies and there K-9 Miko. These investigation would just not be possibly without there dedication and commitment to all the hard work and time they put into it, while still maintaining there regular case load and investigating other numerous calls that we deal with on a daily basis.
James Chatman 39 years of age from Nacogdoches, Texas was arrested for possession of controlled substance 3rd felony and Robin Stokes 50 years of age from Nacogdoches Texas was arrested for Possession of Controlled Substance 2nd Felony. Both subjects were booked into the Nacogdoches County Jail.

City initiates Stage 1 of Drought Contingency Plan
At Tuesday’s City Council meeting, Council members voted to enact Stage I of the City’s Drought Contingency plan, effective immediately. As Texas continues to bake in record heat, the drought news for the state, including Nacogdoches continues to be bleak. Texas is now in the midst of its most severe one-year drought on record, according to John Nielsen-Gammon, the Texas State Climatologist and professor of atmospheric sciences at Texas A&M University. Lake Nacogdoches is currently at the lowest level ever, and continues to drop at ½” per day. Even with the lake continuing to drop it is important to note that compared to some other municipalities Nacogdoches fares well on its water supply.
The purpose of the drought contingency plan is to conserve our available water supply, protect the integrity of our water supply facilities and minimize effects of a water supply shortage. While the contingency plan is a precaution, the City of Nacogdoches has already been working on conservation techniques. “We have been keeping an eye on our water reserves, and have taken a very proactive approach,” said City Engineer Steve Bartlett, “SFASU has already reduced their usage by approximately 10%.” The City has also been working with companies like Pilgrim’s Pride to create alternatives to their typical system usage. The City of Nacogdoches has several other water sources besides Lake Nacogdoches, including 5 active wells, with plans to bring a 6th well back on line.
Stage I of the drought contingency plan maintains voluntary actions of our citizens. Residents with even numbered home addresses are encouraged to only water their lawns on Thursdays from 8 p.m. until Friday morning’s at 8 a.m. and Sundays from 8 p.m. to Monday morning’s at 8 a.m. Residents with odd numbered home addresses are encouraged to only water their lawns on Wednesdays from 8 p.m. to Thursday morning’s at 8 a.m. and Saturdays from 8 p.m. to Sunday morning’s 8 a.m. Stage I also encourages citizens to participate in water conservation techniques. For example: Don’t ignore leaky faucets; they are usually easy and inexpensive to repair. Turn off the valve under the sink until you get around to repairing the leak. A slow drip can waste as much as 170 gallons of water each day and will add to your water bill.
When you save water, you save money on your utility bills too. Saving water is easy for everyone to do, simple tips like washing only full loads of dishes and clothes are important as well.
While only Stage I of the drought contingency plan has been enacted, continued drought conditions could lead to City Council taken further steps to ensure the stability of our water resources. “This is a precautionary measure that we have taken, we appreciate the efforts of our businesses and residents in helping us conserve water during these drought conditions,” said Bartlett. Obituary: Melvin O. Bobo
Melvin O. Bobo, 64, of Douglass, Texas, passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2011, in Houston, Texas.
Mr. Bobo was born Jan. 14, 1947, in Nacogdoches County to Melvin O. Bobo Sr. and Adelle Furra Bobo and was a longtime resident of the Douglass area. He was a 1965 graduate of Nacogdoches High School.
Mel was a family man with high principles and was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Mel was a self-employed logging contractor for over 40 years in the East Texas timber industry. Mel loved the outdoors, especially fishing. Mel was also an avid sports enthusiast.
He is survived by his wife, Diane S. Bobo of Douglass; daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and David Sandoz of Douglass; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Micah Bobo of Douglass; grandchildren, Marin Sandoz, Brittany Bobo, Blake Bobo, Addison Sandoz, Jace Bobo, and Drew Bobo, all of Douglass; his mother, Adelle Bobo of Douglass; and his brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Susan Bobo of Nacogdoches and Perry and Richie Bobo of Hallsville.
He was preceded in death by a son, James David Bobo in 1999, and his father, Melvin O. Bobo Sr. in 1996.
Funeral services are set for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 20, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel, 5400 North St., Nacogdoches, with Bro. John McGuire officiating. Interment will follow at Douglass Cemetery on FM 225.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 19, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel.
Pallbearers: Harvey Alex, Charles Christopher, Ronnie Muller, Lafer Coulter, Dennis McDuffie, and Byron Taylor.
Services are under the direction of Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors, located at 5400 North St., Nacogdoches, Texas. Condolences may be offered online at www.casonmonk-metcalf.com.

August 18: SFA Crime Log
Wednesday August 17, 2011 – Thursday August 18, 2011
On 8-17-2011 an Officer was dispatched to Lumberjack Landing in reference to Theft. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the complainant, who advised between 8-11-2011 and 8-17-2011 copper wiring was stolen from two mechanical closets at Lumberjack Landing. There are no suspects.

Armed robbery at 1930 Douglass Road
Three suspects entered the store around 930 pm Wednesday. The first suspect produced a handgun and demanded the money. Suspect # 1 is described as black, with long black wavy hair. Suspect #2 is described as black, with black hair with blonde highlights, wearing a mask with black pants. #3 is described as black with long black hair wearing a grey hoodie with blue sleeves. These suspects could possibly be males wearing wigs.
The suspects fled the scene in an unknown direction after taking an undetermined amount of cash.
