September 2: SFA Crime Log

Thursday September 1, 2011 – Friday September 2, 2011

On 9-1-2011 an Officer was working the SFA Football game and observed three subjects acting disruptive. One of the subjects attempted to flee from Officers on foot, but was located and detained. The subject was issued a criminal trespass warning from SFA’ s campus. Officers later discovered that the subject had given a fictitious name and signed a form with the incorrect name. A warrant is being requested for failure to identify. There is one suspect.

On 9-1-2011 an Officer was dispatched to east side public restrooms at Homer Bryce Stadium in reference to Criminal Mischief. Upon arrival the Officer located writing on the door to the men’s restroom and a storage room door. There are no suspects.

Obituary: Dolores M. Pleasant

     Dolores (“Dee”) Pleasant, faithful servant of Christ, left this world to join her Heavenly Father on August 31, 2011. Born Dolores Marie Kot in Stanley, Wisconsin, she was the only daughter of Peter and Louise Kot.

     She is survived by her older brother Delphin Kot of Kendall, Wisconsin and younger brother, Dr. Peter Kot of Davidsonville, Maryland. Her parents, husband Bernice, brother Norbert and brother Edward preceded her in death. Dolores graduated from South Division High and attended Spencerian Business College, both in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She met and married Bernice E. Pleasant in 1942 in Florence, South Carolina. They were married for 61 years. A devoted and loving mother, she leaves behind four daughters: Linda Kalister of Parkland, FL, Paula James (also of Parkland, FL), Martha Drake of Houston, TX and Dawn Parker of Dammam, Saudi Arabia. Dee was the quintessential military wife. Their many travels around the globe contributed to her adaptability and social personality. Dee was a very giving person and a faithful friend and caring neighbor. A devoted parishioner of Sacred Heart and Immaculate Conception Catholic Churches. She was also a member of the Altar Society, a founding member of Woodland Hills Golf Club and a long-time member of Piney Woods Country Club. Grandchildren include Kelly James of Richmond, VA, Colin James of Santa Monica, CA, Patrick Parker of Brooklyn, NY, Bryan Drake (Meredith) of Salt Lake City, UT, Chandler Drake of Houston, TX, Alexandra Kalister of Ft. Myers, FL and Taylor Kalister of Parkland, FL. Locally, she is survived by sister-in-law Bea Haney (fraternal twin of Bernice) of Chireno, nephews B.W. Stripling of Nacogdoches, and Joe Bill Mettauer of Center, TX, nieces Joan Stripling and Lois Fitch, both of Nacogdoches, and grand niece Dee Stripling, of Nacogdoches. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 6 at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (Moral). Visitation will be held Monday, September 5 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Laird Funeral Home, located at 2116 South Street in Nacogdoches, followed by recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Graveside services will be at Sunset Cemetery following the service on Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (Moral) 1422 County Road 724, Nacogdoches, TX 75964; The Nacogdoches Treatment Center (www.nactreatmentcenter.org), Smith-Lemli-Opitz Syndrome Foundation (www.smithlemliopitz.org) or Autism Speaks (www.autismspeaks.org).

Obituary: Billy Gerome Compton 1937 – 2011

     Mr. Billy Gerome Compton, age 74, of Nacogdoches, Texas, passed away Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011, at his residence.

     Mr. Compton was born April 12, 1937, in Dublin, Texas, to the late Claude T. and Mary Hannah (Maxwell) Compton and was a graduate of Dublin High School. He had lived in Nacogdoches since 1957 and had enjoyed a distinguished career with Texas Farm Products Company for more than 40 years.

     He had a great love for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

     On April 26, 1957, he and Ella Joy Jones were married. They were members of West Austin St. Church of Christ.

     Survivors: his wife of 54 years, Ella Joy Compton of Nacogdoches; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Lisa Compton of Nacogdoches; granddaughter, Ashley Compton of Nacogdoches; and a grandson, Kyle Compton of Nacogdoches.

     Funeral services are set for 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 6, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel, located at 5400 North St., Nacogdoches, with Randy Harshbarger and Justin McCorkle officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, located at 5127 North St., Nacogdoches.

     Visitation will be held Monday, September 5, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Cason Monk-Metcalf, located at 5400 North Street, Nacogdoches.

17-year-old arrested on a Grand Jury Indictment Warrant for Injury to a Child

     Kendrick Tarver, age 17 of Nacogdoches, was arrested by NPD yesterday at Nacogdoches High School on a Grand Jury Indictment Warrant for Injury to a Child. Mr. Tarver was indicated by a Grand Jury in connection with the burning of a 12 day old female infant on July 27, 2011. The incident occurred in the 800 block of Jordan Street in Nacogdoches.

Fresh baked bread will be back at the market this Saturday

     Molly Perkins will be selling chocolate bread, sandwich breads (honey oat, wheat & white), pecan sticky buns, several varieties of scones and various other rustic breads. Molly hopes to be a regular at the Nacogdoches Farmers Market bringing a variety of wholesome fresh-baked breads and pastries.

     Things to look for: baked goods (breads, cakes, cookies & pies), organic beef, candles, canned goods (wild-picked jams & jellies including may haw, blackberry, blueberry, muscatine and wild plum as well as jams, marmalades, preserves, chow-chow, pickled vegetables, salsas and relishes), ceramics, artisan Texas cheeses, free-range eggs, locally raised organic tilapia fish and tilapia fillets, flowers, fudge, herbs (basil, coriander, dill, oregano, rosemary & thyme), dried herbs, local raw honey, jewelry, loofah sponges, plants (house plants, starter plants, trees & whips), lye soap, tamales and vinegars. LOCAL PRODUCE: green beans, unshelled pinto beans, frozen beans (butter, green, baby Lima & pinto), beets (2 types), Bok choi, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, frozen corn (field & sweet), cucumbers, greens (collard, kale, orugula, mustard, spinach, Swiss chard & turnip), kohlrabi, red leaf lettuce, okra, onions (green, red, white and yellow), frozen peaches, peaches, plums, frozen peas (black eye, zipper cream, brown Crowder, English & purple hull), peppers (sweet banana, sweet Bell, hot Bell, & jalapeno), peaches, plums, new potatoes, rutabage, watermelon, cantaloupe, squash (patti pan, yellow & zucchini), tomatoes (green, Romas, red Celebrity slicers & red Jet Star slicers) and large purple top turnips.
