East Texas Chapter of the Coastal Conservation Asso. annual Banquet

Banquet with various bbq meats along with other dishes and drinks for participants. During the banquet there will be various auctions and raffles for prizes. Auction items relate to fishing items, art and guns. There is a 10-gun raffle giving the ticket holder a chance at 1 of 10 guns. Raffle tickets are $20 each or 6 for $100.

Event tickets are $40 per person or $70 per couple.

TRAFFIC FATALITY-UNIVERSITY DRIVE AT MARTINSVILLE

     The driver of a vehicle involved in an accident Sunday afternoon has died from injuries sustained in the accident.

     The accident occurred at 2:48 PM on 4-8-12 at 1000 University Drive at Martinsville. A 1998 Red Ford Explorer driven by Victoria Ray Rule, age 20 of Gainsville, Tx was traveling northbound on University entering the intersection at Martinsville. A 1998 Red Volkswagen Beetle driven by Kiona Nikale Wilson, age 16 of Nacogdoches was southbound on University, turning east onto Martinsville. The Volkswagen struck the Explorer in the side, causing the explorer to slide sideways and roll twice.

     The driver of the explorer, Victoria Rule, was ejected from the vehicle. Ms. Rule sustained very serious injuries. The police department was notified today that Ms. Rule was pronounced dead at a local hospital at 12:30 AM Thursday due to her injuries.

      A passenger in the Explorer, Victoria Cowart, age 18, sustained non-life threatening injuries, as did the driver of the Volkswagen.

     According to the accident report, the cause of the accident has not been determined due to conflicting information. The investigation is continuing. The accident report also indicates that Ms. Rule was not wearing a seat belt.

Obituary: Bill Parsons

     Dr. Bill Parsons of Nacogdoches, Texas, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2012.

     A longtime reseident of East Texas, Dr. Parsons was well known as a retired Methodist minister and a retired professor of fine arts at Stephen F. Austin State University.

     Funeral services have been set for 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 15, at the First United Methodist Church, located at 201 E. Hospital St. in Nacogdoches, with Dr. Bill Gandin officiating.

     Visitation will be held Saturday, April 14, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel, located at 5400 North St. in Nacogdoches.

Obituary: Lillian Gertrude Poole

     Lillian G. Poole, 87, ascended into Heaven on Monday, April 9, 2012, to be with her husband, Jack Poole.

     Lillian was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack; her daughter, Jackie Lee; son, Reggie Gene; two brothers; and two sisters.

     She is survived by a son, Timothy Poole of Nacogdoches; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

     Lillian was reared in Galveston, Texas, where she met and married Jack Poole. They moved to Nacogdoches after retirement in 1983 on the farm she and Jack owned. Their farm was known as “Jireh.” Lillian was an avid painter and artist. She enjoyed playing dominoes and cards with family and friends.

     On “Jireh,” Lillian continued to actively paint and work with her animals. She loved her dogs and horses. When she and Jack weren’t playing with the animals, they were involved in their church. She was well loved and liked by many and will be greatly missed.

     Graveside rites are set for 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 14, 2012, at Grace Memorial Park, located at 10708 State Highway 6 in Hitchcock, Texas, with Dennis Anderson officiating.

     Visitation will be held Friday, April 13, 2012, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors, 5400 North St. in Nacogdoches.

     In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Nacogdoches Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 635030, Nacogdoches, TX 75963-5030; or Christ Episcopal Church, 1430 N. Mound St., Nacogdoches, TX 75961-4031.
