NACOGDOCHES – The annual bike ride will include a 7.9-mile, 26-mile, 40-mile, and 56-mile route beginning and ending in historic downtown Nacogdoches, the oldest town in Texas. The view from the riders’ bicycle seats will include historic landmarks, scenic residential areas and the beautiful rolling hills and towering pines of the East Texas countryside.
“The Tour de Nac will be a fantastic, family-oriented event offering something for everyone from the serious cyclist to the casual rider,” said Lindsey Mathews, meeting and event coordinator for the Nacogdoches Convention & Visitors Bureau.
The bike ride is set to start at 8 a.m. Saturday, November 17, in downtown Nacogdoches. Designated stops along routes will provide riders with needed rest and refreshments. Sponsors of the event this year are Chick-fil-A, Nacogdoches Oil and Gas, Regions Bank and The Bike Shop.
Fees are $30 for early registration and $35 for late registration after November 7. Only early registrants are guaranteed to receive a Tour de Nac T-shirt. Checks should be made payable to the Nine Flags Festival.
The early registration deadline is November 7 with regular registration being accepted through the day of the race. Fees are $30 for early registration; $35 for regular registration. Forms can be picked up at the Visitor Center, 200 E. Main St., or register online at www.active.com. You may also call (936) 564-7351 to request a form be mailed to you. Race-day registration will be from 6-7:30 a.m. Online registration will close at 12 p.m. on November 16. Registration forms will also be available for download at www.nineflagsfestival.com.
The Nine Flags Christmas Festival is a celebration of Texas history & culture and will be held November 17th through December 8th in Nacogdoches, located about 150 miles north of Houston via U.S. 59. Nine different flags have flown over the oldest town in Texas throughout its rich history, and this year’s festival will pay special tribute to the Spanish flag. Platinum sponsors of the festival include Commercial Bank of Texas, Lumberjack Lofts / Legends at SFA, metroPCS, Mike Perry Motor Company and Walmart.

Evelyn Frances Mosher, age 79, of Pasadena, formerly of Nacogdoches County, passed away Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, at Kindred Bay Area Hospital in Pasadena.
She was born Oct. 17, 1933, in Nacogdoches County as a daughter of the late Hamlin S. Rogers and Frances Clevenger Rogers.
A homemaker, Mrs. Mosher always enjoyed family gatherings and barbecue events. She also enjoyed watching the Houston Texans play football.
Survivors include her spouse, Gary Ansel; her children, Harold Gordon Mosher Jr. and wife Martha, Roger Dale Mosher and wife Debie, and Ima Mosher-Freshour, all of Nacogdoches, and John Mosher and wife Mary and Tamble Sandoval, all of Pasadena; sisters, Ellen Muckleroy and Novis Strickland, both of Nacogdoches; a brother, James C. Rogers and wife Jean of Houston; 14 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Gordon “Bob” Mosher Sr.; daughter, Lillie Marie Lucas; brother, Thomas J. “Buck” Rogers; and sisters, Estelle Finklea, LaNell Clifton, and Thelma Louise “Susie” Rogers.
Funeral services are set for 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel, located at 5400 North Street in Nacogdoches. Private interment will be at Gravel Ridge Cemetery, located off FM 225 in Nacogdoches County.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Nov. 14, from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel.

Rev. Joseph Edward Cannon, Sr., 76, passed away at his residence on November 11, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 10, 1936 in Baker, Florida to parents Allen Jackson Cannon, Sr. and Alice Lenora Cain Cannon.
A funeral service will be conducted at Eastview United Pentecostal Church, 2411 Paul Ave., Lufkin, Texas at 11:00m am Friday, November 16, 2012 with Rev. Jubal Cannon, Rev. Allen King, Rev. Michael Caloway, Rev. Danny Russo, Rev. David Hunt, and Rev. Mark Graves officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Nacogdoches, Texas.
Friends and family are invited to visitation at Greater Faith Tabernacle Church on 2800 Old Lufkin Road, Nacogdoches, Texas from 5-8 pm on November 15.

In RE: Deadly Conduct- P12-20240. Shortly before 6:00 am this morning,officers received a call from a man that was jogging on Lanana Creek Trail. He reported that a middle aged white male, dressed in camouflage, had approached him in the rear of Pecan Park at the trail and pointed a deer rifle at him. The suspect reportedly re-entered the wooded area near the trail. Officers closed the trail from Main Street to the rear of Pecan Park. Officers searched the area but no one was located. The trail was reopened at approximately 8:30 this morning. The investigation is continuing.
