Obituary: Tommie Jeanne (Duck) Fears

Mrs. Tommie Jeanne (Duck) Fears, age 70, of Mount Enterprise, Texas, passed away Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at her residence.

She was born Jan. 25, 1942, in Nacogdoches County as a daughter of Gertrude Ethel (Disney) and Tom Jake Duck. Mrs. Fears had worked in the health care field as a nurse’s assistant.

Her survivors include her husband, Joe Glenn Fears of Mount Enterprise.

Private family arrangements are being conducted under the direction of Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors, located at 5400 North Street in Nacogdoches, Texas.

This week at the Farmer’s Market

The Nacogdoches Farmers Market is open year round for the convenience of residents and visitors. Thomas and Donna from Bulah’s Best Farm will be selling shares for their milk products: cow’s butter, cow’s cheese, cow’s milk, goat cheese, goat milk, and yogurt.

American Legion will not have its trailer at the farmers market this Friday & Saturday, the 18th and 19th. They will be back next Friday and Saturday, the 25th & 26th. They serve barbeque sandwiches, catfish plates, sausage on a stick and soft drinks. Proceeds to benefit US military veterans.

Things you might find this time of year: baked goods (breads, cakes, mini cheesecakes, cookies, fried pies & pies), organic beef, candles, canned goods (jams & jellies, marmalades, preserves, chow-chow, pickled vegetables, salsas & relishes), artisan Texas cheese, organic chicken, free-range eggs, local raw honey, jewelry, plants (cacti, bedding plants, house plants, fruit trees, trees & whips), organic pork, soaps (lye and herbal), sugar cane syrup, tamales, vinegars, fruit wines and wood products. LOCAL PRODUCE: frozen shelled beans (butter, baby Lima & pinto), beets, broccoli, Chinese cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, cilantro, greens (arugula, Swiss chard, collards, kale, komatsuna, mustard, sage, sorrel, spinach & turnip), herbs (3 types of basil, 3 type of mint, rosemary & thyme), lettuce, green onions, parsley, frozen shelled peas (blackeyed, brown Crowder, Lady cream, purple hull & zipper cream), pecans (cracked, shelled & unshelled), squash (banana, butternut, pinata, spaghetti & winter), tomatoes (green & red) and turnips.

The Nacogdoches Farmers’ Market, located at the “hitch lot” at the corner of West Main and Pearl Streets, is open from 8 a.m. until noon or later every Saturday morning. If the market parking lot is full, additional parking is available in the Nacogdoches County Courthouse Annex parking lot. Mark your calendars for March 23rd for our annual Spring Fling event!
