Obituary: Vickie Jeane Jones Miller

Vickie Jeane Jones Miller went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, July 25, 2013. Her husband and three daughters were by her side as she peacefully left to join other loved ones in Heaven.

Vickie was born to the late Gerald Jones and Maxine Wade Jones on October 21, 1951, in Houston, Texas. She loved being part of a very close-knit family. And while she enjoyed fearlessly competing against them in sports and games, she was also fiercely protective of each of them in other situations. Vickie loved family reunions, and worked alongside her Mom, and most recently her brother, Jerry, for nearly 50 years to prepare delicious Thanksgiving meals for sometimes as many as 80 family members and friends. She was always eager to be in on practical jokes and share funny family stories.

She, alongside her Mom, took great pride in her work during the many years she worked as office manager for her Dad. And she was instrumental in the success of many of her Dad’s businesses. She was a patient and loving caregiver for her Mom and Dad in their later years, as she carefully prepared meals and activities just as they requested.

She delighted in her daughters and sons-in-law, and her grandchildren were the lights of her life. Her husband, Paul, was her best friend and loving companion. Since her early childhood days her enjoyment of Colorado family vacations had nurtured her dream of one day spending her days traveling. Her family has many pleasant memories of time spent with her mountain jeep riding, whitewater rafting, and rappelling. She eagerly anticipated the time she and Paul could retire to a life of travel, and they enjoyed a year of touring the U.S. and Canada. As one of her friends stated, “Her appreciation of God’s creation here on earth was inspiring.” They were headed to Alaska when complications from a broken leg in Washington state progressed to a fatal infection.

She was a charter member of Nacogdoches Community Church. She served the Lord in many areas including youth leader and pianist. She sang alto beautifully and blessed many with her vocal contributions to various quartets. Whether recalling memories of her playing softball, volleyball, or a spirited game of UNO; or just how she enthusiastically cheered on her beloved Dallas Cowboys; Vickie will always be remembered for having a true zest for life.

Vickie will truly be missed by those who survive her: her husband, Paul Miller; her daughters, Sandra Muckleroy Wood and husband Brandon, Jakey Muckleroy Sampson and husband Damon, Jolie Muckleroy Melton and husband Monty; her step-daughters, Kim Miller Smith and husband Jon, Paula Miller Pearson and husband Justin; her grandchildren, Dylan and Slayton Sampson, Kaylie, Cory and Andy Melton, Zach and Brandon Smith, Ashton, Emily and Brittany Pearson; her brothers Jerry Jones and wife Debra, Kelly Jones and wife Kim; along with numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 3, 2013, at Nacogdoches Community Church. Officiating will be her brother, Dr. Jerry M. Jones, pastor of Nacogdoches Community Church. Visitation will be held Friday, August 2, 2013, at Cason Monk-Metcalf from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Jordan Jones, Kasey Jones, Rudy Jones, Kevin Wade, Ricki Thornton, and Jorge Guzman. Honorary pallbearers will be Brandon Wood, Damon Sampson, Monty Melton, Dylan Sampson, Slayton Sampson, Cory Melton, Andy Melton, Jonathan Jones, and Kade Jones.

Memorial donations may be made to Nacogdoches Community Church at P.O. Box 630695, Nacogdoches, TX 75963.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors, located at 5400 North Street in Nacogdoches, Texas. Online memories and condolences may be offered at www.CasonMonk-Metcalf.com.
