The Nacogdoches County Sheriff Office has filed additional charges on Jose Ignacio Lopez of Nacogdoches for Injury to a child a first degree felony. Sheriff Jason Bridges stated that the charges stem from a sexual assault investigation that the Sheriff Office started investigating on October 13, 2013.
The Sheriff Office was contacted by Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital in reference to a child who had been assaulted. Upon further investigation it was found that the child had been sexually assaulted by a relative that was identified as Jose Ignacio Lopez.
During this investigation it was revealed that the child is younger than six years of age and had contracted a sexual transmitted disease from the assault. A warrant was obtained for the suspect for Aggravated sexual assault of a child, a first degree felony. The suspect was arrested on that charge on October 17, 2013 and booked into the Nacogdoches County Jail.
During the ongoing investigation, Sheriff Investigators requested a forensic exam from the suspect. The results of that test have confirmed that the victim obtained the sexual transmitted disease from the suspect. Sheriff Investigators obtained another warrant for Lopez arrest on Tuesday afternoon for the injury to a Child charge and he was served with that warrant at the Nacogdoches County Jail.
Jose Ignacio Lopez bond has been set at $150,000.00 dollars on the Aggravated sexual assault charge. Lopez is awaiting arraignment on the Injury to a child charge.
