Dec. 31, 2014

New in Nacogdoches!

For some it’s the first look at Nacogdoches. For others it’s the “handy go to” resource for local businesses’ products and services. Many make it a regular destination in their daily online routine to check Hot News and area events.

New Year’s Day, visitors from around the world will view the Nacogdoches.org web site with its new look for 2015.

“Point A Media is honored for the continued opportunity to promote Nacogdoches as the place in which we all love to live, work and play,” said Angie Brewer. “Our team created an all-new for 2015 Nacogdoches.org, redesigned with mobile and tablet optimization in mind. It will scale to fit devices and still show off all of the bells and whistles we want featured on the home page with the added benefits of retaining key functionality and looking great!”

Featured throughout the web site’s pages are its sponsors. For the Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce 2015 site in the leaderboard sponsor position are Commercial Bank of Texas, N.A., Nacogdoches Independent School District and Suddenlink Communications. In the highrise sponsor position are Charles Pool Real Estate, Inc., First Bank & Trust East Texas, State Farm Insurance — Nikki Evans-Wallace, Wendy Buchanan, AAMS®, AWMA®, Managing Director – Investments — Wells Fargo Advisors, LLC and XETX Business Solutions, Inc.

In 2014, Nacogdoches.org hosted more than 113,000 visits from 111 countries, representing an increase of 4.8%. The majority of visitors accessed the site from the United States (97.4%), followed by Brazil (0.6%) and Canada (0.3%). The site tracked visitors from 506 Texas cities and Texas users accessed the site at a higher rate than visitors from any other location (83.3%).

Compared to 2013, 2014 increases in mobile access (+37.1%) and tablet use (+30.8%) of the site were used to justify the decision to redesign the site’s framework to increase adaptability for a wider range of devices.

The peak access day in 2014 corresponded with the Texas Blueberry Festival presented by Brookshire Brothers on Friday, June 13 and Saturday, June 14. Other peak days were Saturday, Dec. 6 and Tuesday, Jan, 21.

The Nacogdoches County Chamber web site’s fresh-for-2015 look complements the 2015 Official Guide & Chamber Directory and City & County Street Map, also published by Point A Media. The printed materials will be ready for distribution during the Chamber’s annual Operation Thank You! event presented by Austin Bank that begins on Jan. 19.

Visit the Nacogdoches County Chamber at 2516 North St. or call 936-560-5533 for more information about the new publications, Operation Thank You! activities or to join the Chamber.

SFA Gardens Lecture Series to feature solar energy representative

SFA Gardens at Stephen F. Austin State University will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, in the Ina Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, 2900 Raguet St. in Nacogdoches.

Tony Napolillo from Green Mountain Energy Company will present “Why Solar is the Future of a Sustainable World.”

Green Mountain is the nation’s longest-serving renewable energy retailer, providing consumers, including Nacogdoches residents, with the choice for electricity plans backed by wind and solar. Through the company’s Green Mountain EnergySun Club, residential customers and supporters of solar energy have the opportunity to give back to nonprofit organizations through solar power projects.

Contributions from customers to the Sun Club help fund the purchase and installation of solar projects at deserving nonprofits each year. Since the program’s founding in 2002, the Sun Club has donated more than $3 million to help install more than 700 kilowatts of solar power, which has the potential to avoid more than 1.2 million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions each year.

Napolillo has managed the Sun Club since 2006, overseeing almost all of the program’s 75 solar projects, including the newly installed solar array at the Ina Brundrett Conservation Education Building. He has 20 years of experience in the marketing and customer relations fields and has been with Green Mountain since 2003. He lives in Austin with his wife and three sons. His passion for the environment and communications are a natural fit for Green Mountain and the Lecture Series.

The Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series is held the second Thursday of each month at the Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture’s SFA Pineywoods Native Plant Center. A raffle for rare plants will be held after the program. The lecture is free and open to the public, but donations to the Theresa and Les Reeves lecture series fund always are appreciated.

Parking is available at the nearby Raguet Elementary School, 2428 Raguet St., with continual shuttle service to the Ina Brundrett Conservation Education Building.

For more information, call Elyce Rodewald at (936) 468-1832 or email sfagardens@sfasu.edu.
