Registration deadline nears for Kindermusik Adventure Camps

The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music and the Music Preparatory Division will once again offer the popular Kindermusik Adventure Camps this July for children age newborn through 7 years.

The camp classes, which run July 13 through 17, will be held in the Prep Performance Hall of the Music Prep House, located at 3028 Raguet St. Each class has a different theme and is age appropriate, according to Pat Barnett, director of the Music Preparatory Division of the SFA School of Music.

“In just five lessons, children can experience a summer’s worth of music, stories and activities created to inspire a lifetime of learning,” Barnett said. “In a Kindermusik summer camp, parents and children will play, learn, sing, dance, create and share in the fun of making music together.”

“Oh, What Busy Days!” is for newborns to 18 months. With a little more Tchaikovsky in a “Twinkle, Twinkle” repertoire, parents will discover new ways their child can benefit from the classics. Parents will also develop a new appreciation for the world’s most respected music. Each lesson features new activities and songs that the parent can sing for all the places baby and mom go together – the store, the playground, the doctor and more. The class is from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Tuition is $95.

“Zoo Train” is for children 18 months to 3 years. Toddlers can tag along this summer with a traveling zoo train and bring their own stuffed animals for the petting zoo. Children can wear long white socks on their hands for polar bear paws and learn about real animals in the zoo. The class is from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuition is $120.

“On the Road” is for children 4 to 5 years and will help parents relive their own childhood memories. Kids will play “Eye Spy” and find shapes in the clouds to pass the time and take imaginary trips in a bus named “Van Go” to fun-filled vacation destinations such as the carnival, a summer cottage and the beach. The class is from 1 to 2 p.m., and tuition is $130.

“Tell Me A Tale” is for children 6 to 7 years. Through storytelling, children develop an early awareness of rhythm, movement, singing and drama. Each lesson features a new tale from around the world, explored through multi-instrument and multi-cultural elements. It is an around-the-imagination adventure of the greatest stories from Europe, Malaysia, South Africa and more, according to Barnett. The class is from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Tuition is $140.

“Inspire children’s love of learning in our delightfully engaging summer sessions,” Barnett said. “Best of all, every one of our summer camp activities – the music, stories and crafts – is specially designed to nurture every child’s natural curiosity, eventually drawing each child toward learning new words, new concepts and big ideas.”

Home materials are included with each class. Deadline to register in June 30.

NACOGDOCHES POLICE DEPARTMENT
MEDIA INFORMATION
Issued June 14, 2015 6:30 PM CDT
Contact: Sergeant Greg Sowell, PIO- 936.559.2618

Trailer Fire- 4100 block of South Street

The Nacogdoches Fire Department is currently handling a trailer fire behind Texas Travel Plaza, located in the 4000 block of South Street.

The initial call was logged at 2:02 pm this afternoon. NFD, along with Nacogdoches PD, Texas DPS and Southland Response Haz-Mat responded.

Upon opening the trailer, which was parked, the fire grew rapidly, and the trailer is currently fully involved in fire. The NFD is not attempting to extinguish the blaze due to chemicals that are on board that are water reactive.

The trailer contains vehicle parts. The smoke from the fire is emitting straight upward and is dissipating. At this time there is no concern for public safety.

The Texas travel Plaza and an adjacent residence were evacuated as a precaution.
