STEAM 4 Kids: Medieval Times

The Judy B. McDonald Public Library invites children ages 7-11 years to participate in STEAM 4 Kids on Thursday, February 23rd at 5:30 p.m. Participants will explore what it was like to live in medieval times and build models of medieval weapons and castles. Oscar Movie Night at the Public Library

The City of Nacogdoches Public Library invites the community to attend the Fourth Annual Oscar Movie Night on Saturday, March 4th at 5:30pm. One of this year’s Academy Award-nominated movies will be screened and there will be Oscar Trivia. Attendees are encouraged to dress up, walk our red carpet and get in the spirit, although formal dress is not required. Hors d’oeuvres and other award-worthy refreshments will be served. Nacogdoches Seed Library at the Public Library

The City of Nacogdoches Public Library is pleased to announce the coming launch of the Nacogdoches Seed Library, a sharing repository of seeds that may be “borrowed” by any library patron for free. Seeds will be supplied from donations, eventually from plants that result from borrowed seeds. The seeds will be catalogued along with user and distributor information on growing and harvesting each seed variety. “This is a big undertaking, both in terms of work and, we hope, local impact,” says Crystal Hicks, assistant library director. “We’re thrilled to have support from Resilient Nacogdoches, Caddo Mounds State Historic Site, and the Nacogdoches Farmers Market, along with others in the community, as we kick off this initiative which we hope will grow into a thriving circulating collection.” The goal is to help preserve our agricultural heritage, share knowledge, and benefit local farmers and gardeners, both experienced and novice. “This kind of initiative protects local family history through the preservation of heirloom varieties,” says Elia Ali, library circulation clerk. “We’re happy to provide a place where anyone can get seeds and information for free to start a garden and become more self-sufficient.” The library is on Facebook (as Nacogdoches Public Library) and Twitter and Instagram (as @friendsofnacpl).

We are excited to announce the official launch of the new City of Nacogdoches podcast, NacChat. Hosted by Communications/Main Street Director, Amy Mehaffey, NacChat is a pre-recorded series which features a new guest every show. These guests discuss a variety of topics including debunking rumors, addressing city related issues, announcing new projects, or telling stories of their favorite experiences.
