Representatives of the Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce will give a brief report and thank you presentation for the 27th Annual Texas Blueberry Festival presented by Tipton Ford-Lincoln at the July 19 City Council meeting. Festival Chair Grace Handler and Chamber Chairman Rusty Rust plan to make the presentation.

“The second Saturday in June was a great blueberry celebration in Nacogdoches,” Handler said. “More than 19,000 attendees enjoyed the day’s activities in historic downtown, and that would not have happened without the support and partnership with the City.”

The festival brought a calculated $2.09 million economic impact for the community. More than 4,000 fresh blueberry pancakes were served by the Kiwanis Club, festival visitors picked more than 1,000 lbs. of blueberries at The Blueberry Place and the Nacogdoches Quilters Guild raised $2,352 in the donation quilt raffle that was distributed to Love INC and the Nacogdoches Treatment Center.

“We’re very pleased that in nearly every category, the festival activities were increased this year over the previous years,” said Chamber Interim President/CEO Bill Teague. “We believe it is a great economic impact to the region and deeply appreciate all of the volunteers, vendors and staff who helped make it possible.”

According to Rust, “Sponsors of the event such as Presenting Sponsor Tipton Ford-Lincoln have contributed to the funds needed to keep this family-friendly festival a ‘no admission charge’ event. Some sponsors take the opportunity to work events, and the Chamber Board of Directors sincerely appreciate the participation.”
