Obituary: Gay Ellen Ervin

     Gay Henry Ervin, age 57, of Nacogdoches, Texas, passed away Sunday, February 12, 2012, in Dallas, Texas.

     Gay was born November 24, 1954, in Nacogdoches to parents Jack Oran Henry and Laverne (Mooney) Henry.

     After graduating from Nacogdoches High School in 1973, she received a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1977, as well as a Master in Education from SFA in 1979. She was a licensed speech-language pathologist for Nacogdoches Independent School District for 33 years until her retirement in 2010. Gay was very passionate about making a difference in the lives of her students. She was a member of the Texas Speech and Hearing Association.

     Gay enjoyed spending time with her family and friends as well as participating in the work of her church. She was a member of Fredonia Hill Baptist Church, where she was director of the Girls in Action group for 17 years.

     Her survivors include her husband, Ralph Ervin of Nacogdoches; daughters, Kristen Ervin and Megan Ervin, both of Nacogdoches; a sister, Joy Hounsel and husband Ron of Sunnyvale, Texas; a niece, Melissa Hounsel of McKinney, Texas; and numerous other family members who held a very special place in her heart.

     She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Laverne Henry.

     A service celebrating the life of Gay will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 14, 2012, at Fredonia Hill Baptist Church, 1711 South Street in Nacogdoches.
