NPD: ACCIDENT INVOLVING SCHOOL BUS

     NPD Afternoon Update: The driver of the Saturn SUV was issued a citation for Failure to Control Speed and No Drivers License.

     The Nacogdoches Police Department investigated an accident early this morning that involved a passenger car and a loaded school bus.

     The accident occurred in the 2600 block of Douglass Road (State Highway 21 West) and was logged at 7:44 a.m.

     A 2006 Saturn SUV driven by Vincente Marrero, 19, of Nacogdoches was eastbound on Douglass Road and struck the rear of a school bus owned and operated by the Nacogdoches Independent School District. The bus was driven by Larry Reynard, Jr. of Nacogdoches. The bus was stopped to make a pick-up of students. At the time of the accident, the bus was loaded with 63 elementary students, ranging in age from four to eleven years old.

     One child, an 8 year old boy, was taken to Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor, non-life threatening injuries.

     The remaining students were transferred to another NISD bus and were delivered to school.
