The combined choirs at Stephen F. Austin State University will present the spring choral masterwork concert, featuring Johannes Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem (A German Requiem), at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at First Baptist Church, 411 North St. Admission is free.
The choirs include the A Cappella Choir, conducted by Dr. Michael Murphy, director of choral activities at SFA, and the Kantorei Choir and Singin’ Axes, conducted by Dr. Tod Fish, associate director of choral activities. Murphy will conduct the combined choirs for this performance.
In addition to Brahms’ Requiem performed by the combined choirs, the concert will include the A Cappella Choir performing the double choir selection Singet dem Herrn ein neues Lied, SWV 35 by Heinrich Schütz, and Otche nash (written for Ukraine) by Rihards Dubra (world premiere).
Concert pianists are Dr. Thomas Nixon, collaborative pianist at SFA, and Dr. Ron Petti, professor and director of collaborative piano. Soloists are Professor Debbie Berry, soprano, and Dr. Scott LaGraff, baritone.

The Contemporary Ensemble at Stephen F. Austin State University will present a live-streamed concert at 6 p.m. Friday, April 29, available for viewing on the SFA School of Music YouTube channel.
The Contemporary Ensemble is directed by James Adams, director of the SRT program at SFA. Zach Moore is assistant director.
The performance will feature “Playground” by Bea Miller (featured on the Netflix animated series “Arcane League of Legends”); “Time” by Hans Zimmer (from the movie “Inception”); “Left To Bloom” by Lena Raine (from the original game soundtrack of “Minecraft: Caves and Cliffs”); and “The Pot” by Tool.
