Mother/Teen Daughter event in Nacogdoches, Texas on April 6 will teach girls how to deal with bullying

(Mexia, TX) —According to Pacer’s National Bullying Prevention Center, one in every five students has been bullied, and girls are more likely to be bullied at school than boys. Former school counselor and #1 Amazon best-selling author, Shannon Perry, understands the cost of bullying too well. This topic as well as other issues will be discussed during the IN HER SHOES mother/teen daughter conference on Saturday, April 6 in Nacogdoches, Texas.

“I was bullied as a child, and I admittedly handled it wrong,” says Perry. “As a school counselor for over 14 years, I saw the damage it can have on students. I gave the eulogy at the funeral of a teen girl who sadly believed suicide was her only way out of a bullying situation. During the IN HER SHOES event, we will talk about this epidemic that is sweeping our schools, and I will show girls practical techniques to keep bullies away.”

In addition to bullying, Perry will talk to teen girls and their mothers about other important issues such as body image and self-esteem, dating, cell phone/social media usage, parent-teen communication, and other topics included in Perry’s award-winning book “Stand: Staying Balanced with Answers for Real Teen Life.” The book was given the Reader’s Favorite award which honors books in over 140 genres. Past award winners and participants include New York Times bestselling authors as well as celebrity authors such as movie star Jim Carrey and actor Henry Winkler. Perry says her relationship with her own mother sparked the idea for the book and the conference.

“Before her death from cancer a few years ago, my mom and I had become best friends,” says Perry. “But it wasn’t always that way, and I have a passion for helping moms and teen daughters improve and strengthen their relationships. Not long ago, a mother heard me on a CBS show and came to a conference. Her daughter was 16 and had run away from home, but the mom said she begged her daughter to join her at the event. The daughter actually showed up, and their relationship was renewed that day. We have heard stories like this from across the country from people who have attended IN HER SHOES.”

Tickets for the April 6 event are $20. For more information visit: https://www.inhershoestour.com/ or https://shannonperryministries.ticketspice.com/inhershoesapril6.

Texas Blueberry Festival set for June 8 in Nacogdoches and vendor application is open!

Texas Blueberry Festival set for June 8

The most delicious festival in Texas returns to Nacogdoches the second Saturday in June with a day-long celebration of the annual blueberry harvest, featuring live music, pick your own, delicious blueberry fare and children’s activities.

“The 34th annual Texas Blueberry Festival will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, June 8, in historic downtown Nacogdoches – the oldest town in Texas,” said Festival Chair Grace Handler-Welch. “Admission and parking are free, and thanks to Keep Nacogdoches Beautiful, the festival is a litter free event.”

A lot of the traditional favorites will be back, like the Kiwanis Blueberry Pancake Breakfast, the Vehicle Funcase Car Show, the True Blue Pet Parade, and of course, the Texas-grown Fresh Blueberries for Sale, available by the flat or by the pint.

“There is a huge new addition to this year’s festival that will fill downtown’s Festival Park, but you’ll have to keep a lookout for more on that and other new additions,” she said.

More than 200 arts, crafts and food vendors will also be on site, in addition to the downtown merchants and other local businesses with tons of blueberry-sweet specials and sales. The vendor application process is open now and can be found on the Vendor page at www.TexasBlueberryFestival.com or call the Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce at 936-560-5533.

Other attractions include a 42 tournament, pie-eating contest, washerboard tournament, a cooking demonstration and cupcake contest. Visit the Cool Zone locations that will allow festival attendees to relax and take a break from the summer heat.

Prime growing conditions make Nacogdoches County and East Texas leaders in blueberry production, and the annual harvest peaks in early summer. Proceeds from the
Texas Blueberry Festival presented by Tipton Ford benefit the Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce’s various community and business development programs. Nacogdoches is located approximately 150 miles north of Houston via U.S. Hwy. 59.

For more information about the Texas Blueberry Festival, call the Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce at 936-560-5533 or Visit Nacogdoches at 936-564-7351. For a complete schedule of events and other festival details, go to www.TexasBlueberryFestival.com.
